Guest
From StephenC at the start: this is one slow start, there's a nice 5-8 kn at Orakei but nothing at the start, boats are drifting Oh well, tide will start to ebb soon.
Guest
StephenC: A mixture of kites, code )'s, and headsails, but the big gear won't fill, blocked by the bridge and the city. Breeze seems to be SW at the start (well----) and NW further out.
Guest
StephenC: After 45 mins Ponsonby Scpow and Kia Kaha have made it ti the tank farm Hope they have plenty of food on board.

Deep Purple 512
Only superbird to cruz in the multis, no charleston or vodafone, my record lives another year Didn't see frenzy either, are they racing?
Guest
StephenC: 11.02 - There's a split in the fleet with half huggin gthe city and the rest hugging Bayswater.Lead is Ponsonby Scow just passing container wharf.. 11.19 PS now at North Head barely ahead of Kia KAha. Fleet now carrying kites. 11.22 Squealer have hoisted the big gear and are rapidly making up for lost time having just passed 4 boats and gaining on the leaders 11.27 Battle of the Tauranga boats - Squealer leads Frenzy by around 200m. Most iof the fleet betwwen Mt Vic and Nth Head.
Guest
11.35 Kia Kaha are heading north with 4 pther boats.while the rest of the fleet is heading for Motuihe. Gone light again with boats drifting. And I need new glasses the lead boat wasn't PS, maybe Rikki (sounds more likely - ed).
Guest
StephenC: Kia KAha heading east again and are trailingat least 4 boats as they head down to Bean Rock, slow going for the quickest boat in the fleet.
Guest
painfully slow is all that can be described by that start and because of it I will only be posting the photos I took to facebook as im rapidly running out of time. Unfortunitly it was a day to be out on a boat so the quality isnt the best.
Guest
Here are the photos from Orakei that I took. Its time for lunch and a camp for me now. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... 384&type=
Fish 0
Predict wind weather routing is estimating either 1 day 3 hrs or 1 day 5 hrs to finish. Polars based on a certain quality 37 ft kauri log Hope they all enjoy slow and tedious racing, or have sufficient 'fluids' to rehydrate with. So, how did the A-T race get a reputation for being either a drifter or blowing its tits off?
Guest
Duty Free: Spent 2 hrs drifting woth the tide to North Head. Fleet split with boats heading up main channel but they appear to be getting knocked towards Takapuna. We have asettled into prevailing NE breeze of 5kn and just passing northern leading heading to Motuihe Channel with the main part of the fleet.

Guest
Atom Ant moving slowly past the Haystack in 4-7 kn says bring on Channel Is.
Guest
Looking at the tracker those that went outside are dipping out badly.
Grinna 2
According to the tracker, Cool Change have taken a somewhat unconventional route across Waiheke Island. Wonder if having some extra height after going out the main channel might pay off a little bit for them when the fleet get closer to Channel Island?
Grinna 2
And apparently Cool Change have accelerated to 45 knots. That's impressive!
Guest
Updates: Atom Ant blew out the No 1 - wonder if there's a competent sailmaker aboard? Duty at 1626- Past D'Urville Rock off Waiheke in 10 kn breeze from the north, beautiful day with boats inside and outside us. Breeze looks consistent all the way to Channel. Just off the helm so time for a quick nap in the bean bag (tough race guys!!!) Whatever at 1640-18 miles to Channel Is. Northerly about 9 kn. Behind Andar and Frenzy. great sailing conditions.
