First step of the new rudder done .... aircraft wing style of construction . carbon foam sandwhich panel laid up in the garage then sent to the CNC dude . next step is to wrap it in some funky sh*t then tip in some 2 part expanding foam . The foam will be sanded back to the ribs and then then it will get skinned carbon . design and construction is being done by my mate Scott who is handy with a computer and carbon . Check his Ross 490 rebuild here on creworg and in boating Nz The rudder will be hanging off a second generation E780 that we are bringing into this century

  2. Looks like a beast , see how you go with it , we have tweakers for ours cause it really twists off as soon as you crack the sheets a bit . You should be able to match the wind speed up to about 6-7 knots and then start ripping stuff off the deck above that !

After a raucous sail up the west coast with over 6 meter seas and 45 knots of wind, boat speeds above 16 kn hitting 20kn, tired after logging our first ever 300+ mile day....We decided to haul-out in Whangarei at Oceania Marine. They had the very best rate for the haul-out and also if we paid them to do all the anti-fouling... so they were almost the most competitive priced of all the yards that had a travel lift for our beam.   4. I reckon the easiest way to see if you can handle it is to hire a 40 foot container and live in it for three weeks in the middle of winter. No cheating - cooking on a gas burner and a portapotti for a loo. Park the car 500m away and you can only get to it on a scooter. Rig up a special device to tap on the roof of the container, but only every now and then. Practise getting up in the dark to figure out wtf it is.
