I put a 200amp ANL fuse in line with a direct link from alternator to house batteries. As IT said, these fuses are OK for use in a flammable situation. Incidentally, this is in parallel with the alternator output going to the starter motor which of course is in line with the start battery but it is connected to the battery side of the starter solenoid so remains live. Designed that way. I would suggest you consider using grunty circuit breakers for essential items like coms, winch etc. Stay with tye current rating for the gear you are protecting! Fuses can over time suffer from "sagging", sudd
  2. Our of interest...how big was the boat?

House battery wont charge until the switch board supply master is on or the emergency parallel switch....or both.
  4. Looked like the normal clear film plastic used in most canvas spray dodgers. ("Glass-like clarity in both a polycarbonate and impact resistant acrylic substrate "). Polycarb I was told is not that UV resistant? That from "everything acrylic" in Drury who said go a special UV resistant perspex. Only issue is its prone to scratching.
  5. Plastic windscreens will last...3 years? At most? A decent sea will explode those? Decided to fire up the laptop and find a few pics. This is how ours went. 2011 we made it, still going strong.
  6. Just one question Grant. Anyone tested the SIDE holding resetting abilities of anchors? The CQR is the only one that has a pivoting shaft that would allow the blade to remain set without pulling out when wind veers or backs? All others would be prone to pulling out then resetting?
  7. Rotting away on its mooring, what a waste! A nice small yacht we saw today in Mill Bay (for Aucklanders its north of you!). Someone has to be paying for the mooring or is that the owner on the coach roof....nesting?
  8. Manson supreme 25 works for us. Had some issues getting it to set on 15m of 8mm short link and warp so went to that same dodgy anchor and chain place on the shore who sent us another 15m of maggi chain and joiner, bloody brilliant. Anchor sets first time instead of towing it all around the bay. Big....as in lotto winner boats.. seem to do well on the old Bruce. Way to big for us.
  9. The idea of glassing the canvas is where you have an old dilapidated dodger that is about to fall apart that was built originally for your boat. If starting from scratch then ply glassed over would be the way to go.
  10. I wonder if it's old Humphrey? Turned up years ago in Tauranga and loved crushing parked car bonnets.
  11. It's not hard to do: Get canvas repaired then stretch very tight over the frames on the boat. Cut out the silly plastic window. Mix up a good dollop of polyester resin and start brushing it on making sure you get it into the fabric. Concentrate on the seams and stitching plus around where the new window will go. You will need to do both inside the dodger and out. Once cured give it a good wash with sugar soap and when dry do the outside again this time laying glass strip where the seams are inside and out. When cured wash outside, dry then it's time to start lying the mat. Can't remember what
  12. Wicked! So lots of motor bikes going too? Briggs and Stratton farm engines?
  13. Drat! True. Thats what our perspex, not flimsy plastic window is for. Breeze? We poke our heads around the corner but when pissing down or beating to windward...loooovely!
  14. Get a canvas one that fits and glass it! Wonderful!
  15. Must admit, Winddan looks good, says tomorrow nice easterlies up the coast so away to Manganui after sun up. Will see how it goes compared to Windy and bloody met"service".
  16. Funny, none of this is in the manual, mercury website, no one seems to know. Thanks for that, gives me something to work with.
  17. I know there are a lot of these on the arse end of tenders around the place hoping someone might know the fuel capacity? Average run time on a tank? Searched the net and can find nothing.
  18. Yep, before I get flamed found it all hiding under "northland"...(too much hooch!). Information overload! All these wind and weather apps, how often do they get it RIGHT!?
  19. 'Windy'...brilliant! Just looked at Windan, yet again, nothing above Dorkland!
  20. Working here but what friggin use is jellicoe wharfs weather to us in Whangaroa. Waste of $5
  21. The bar was there as the forpeak mount for the old pulpit, the new one doesn't need it so took it off but put it back on as it protected the furler from being wacked when the anchor comes up. Also had arms welded on both the old and new roller then looked heavy duty bungy through them, the lower one through a small length of plastic water pipe. Keeps the anchor shaft sitting nicely in the roller and stops the warp popping out as we are warp / chain. Cost $300 to get it done, money well spent as anchoring now so easy. Will get in the ding later and get a better pic.
