  1. Yeh that bank is pretty bad! If you're thinking you'll be on or off around low it would probably be better for you to go from the dinghy ramp at subrisky's bucks beach. Yeh that batten is a pain in the royal. There' a spare in the stbd hull as well!
  2. Yup - Aaron's going to give her a much needed refresh - really pleased where she's ended up. After 16 years - still pretty hard not to think about heading out to check lines etc. I'm sure that'll change when she heads round the corner and I get the new boat back in the water. No rush to vacate the mooring Aaron - estuary sailing in a GBE is lots of fun!
  3. Was that yesterday - thought I saw you out. The estuary is 'usually' a little more benign than outside
  4. Glad I'm outa there! You won't be buying it - it'll be a "refundable" deposit which you'll get when you return it!
  5. In response, Dalton says he had no choice but to accept a lay-day and there is even a letter from regatta director Iain Murray on their website explaining the decision. "It's there in black and white ... but the horse had bolted. There were a few like that. The story just wasn't right but we couldn't stop it." Anyone got a link to said letter?
  6. VB is in the process of changing his GENNE from a sock to a furler. He'll be able to offer his reasoning I'm sure IIRC it comes down to ease of dousing!
  7. Anyone got a source for cheap framing timber - boat tenting time!
  8. Yesterday I started chipping away at the rot along the back rail of the nacelle with a Dremel drill, then with a hammer and pinch bar. Tonight I cut a section out further forward with the jig saw - saturated! Ah well - just another deck to build! One day soon I hope to get to the end of pull things apart!
  9. "Pete called it one way and I called it another" direct Spittal speak for - "yeh - might have got it wrong"!
  10. KM - what laminating resin did you settle on for infusing?
  11. Opus is a monster in every sense of the word!
  12. symptomatic of local body beauracracy. Make a submission wrt to the resource application on the piles. Advise them that clearly the ownership structure is flawed and that there is an environmental risk as a consequence of the council's own direct lack of duty of care. Lay a formal complaint with the local body ombudsman, then finally call your local body rep and tell them of your issue - advise him or her than you won't be voting for him or her at the next election and will advise as many people as you can to not do the same. What ever you do don't go the beaurocrat - they can be a vindict
  13. there's a name I haven't heard from in a while - anyone know where Ryan is these days?
  14. RescueMe are actively working on an alternative to the Parachute Flare (I think that;s what you mean by rocket) http://www.rescuemeballoon.org/#!about/c2414 http://news.discovery.com/tech/gear-and-gadgets/rescue-me-balloon-uses-helium-led-lights-141111.htm
  15. I was afraid you'd say that. She's a pretty little boat. Not sure if Mr Marine still owns her
  16. Cheers guys - yeh I've used peel ply and know of its value
  17. sh*t - did you catch a name?
  18. Cheers KM - I might just take you up on that. IT the pics from the forum link above seems to have gone AWOL (again?) Should probably add that forum to the tips n tricks forum as well. Gonna hone my skills on some flash vent cowls first followed by a folding bbq table (have some old material lying about for that job) followed by the main deck. Going to infuse as well - might as well go the whole hog!
  19. Hey KM - what size vac pump did you use for your large panels
  20. indeed! However "Formica or the likes" vs "22mm think MDF cover sheet . . . then gave it a coat of west resin with a god splash of acetone . . . sanded and gave it a full coat, sand again and another full coat then a fine sanded" does strike a particular "chord" with me!
  21. Anyone know where I could contact in Auckland for a couple of 16m sheets - preferrably seconds to keep the cost down! Alternatively, anyone have a spare 2m x 2m laminating table lying about that they don't need for a few weeks!?! (actually the main job is 3.7m x 1.7m but I was trying to be realistic by chopping it in two!)
