  1. Thanks Erice I was after samples of the stuff near Minerva (or reports if people are seeing it)..... great offer all the same. If they are white I'd guess Taupo, if they are light grey then they would be from the Kermadecs. Rangitoto did't produce large pumice, mostly scoria and very little would have floated. it would be black or red as well. Cheers
  2. Hi We have sightings and satellite images of a pumice raft west of Minerva Reef area, see this link: http://info.geonet.org.nz/display/volc/2016/11/21/Pumice+raft+reported+west+of+Minerva+Reef If anyone knows of boats in that area that have encounters I'd appreciate hearing about it. Even better if they could scoop up a couple of pieces. Thanks
  3. Hi Kiwi, Glade to see you enjoyed Rotoiti, may see you again.
  4. Hi There is one at Lake Rotoiti in the BOPTYS compound. Where are you?
  5. I think we have Pacer or 2 down here, if you want to look at one let me know and i'll find out who owns it. The Catalina has a swing board, and I'm sure the Pacer is more of a dagger board set up.
  6. Great to see Elevation back on the lake, Samasaan will be there to keep you honest
  7. Interesting thread ..... the BOP Regional Council is currently revising its Navigation Regs (that's were the rules lie). We have opposed this as. We (and you) have: Martime NZ rules YNZ Safety regs Then regional Council rules As we are mobile with our yachts, we get to sail under 3 Regions, YNZ and MNZ rules .. these vary every where we go. Whats allowed in one region, isn't in the next.
  8. Great to see Kiwi on his Maiden voyage over the weekend.
  9. The label is in poor condition, I think it is a Whale product as they have WF part numbers. I can not find any specifications, so are unclear if it was a sediment and or bacterial filter? There is a WF1320 that 'improves' taste but is not a bacterial filter and a WF3000 that appear in searches. There are also filters with 'carbon' that are reported to reduce algae toxins.
  10. Dark flakes started to appear in the sink over the weekend, arriving from the water supply. Further investigation has found a WF1250 water filter inline. I have removed this an back flushed etc an lots of crap came out. This generates two questions; 1) What is the recommended/normal installation spec for a water supply 2) What is the replacement part for a WF1250 Thanks
  11. IT there are a few science papers around, I'm sure NIWA has lots of info, maybe trawl the web page Here is a 'global' over view; http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/00288330.2001.9517023 http://journals.ametsoc.org/doi/full/10.1175/1520-0485%282001%29031%3C2917%3ATDOTEA%3E2.0.CO%3B2 http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/00288330.1985.9516077 Bay of Islands; http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/00288330.1974.9515537 There must be heaps more out there.
  12. Another minor player here is global plate tectonics, the bays and islands are moving too ! Since 2000 Auckland has moved eastward about 70 mm and north over 600 mm. That waypoint you made in the marina berth in 2000 is now over 600 mm out, and in 7 years time will be over a metre out. Follow this link for a plot of the northerly component for the AUCK(land) and TRNG (Tauranga) cGPS sites: http://fits.geonet.org.nz/plot?sites=LI.AUCK,LI.TRNG&typeID=n&days=7000&type=scatter and follow this link for a plot of the easterly component for the AUCK(land) and TRGN (Tauranga) cGP
  13. No VHF's are going to stop working. You will be using different Chanels that's all.
  14. Yip I did that trip in 1994, we sailed up to Raoul an back, never left NZ.

Many were home builds. There have been a few down this way, good lake boats. Tended to be underballested in a breeze.
  16. I agree with Sundreamer for a madain voyage to head for the Rotorua Lakes. Yes there are many bays that look like over night locations on Taupo, but they do not always provide as much protection as you expect. Everywhere is a long way if you have move. Great to see you have a good boat there. Let us know if you want to head to Rotoiti.
  17. WOW what a treasure, those were great weekends.
  18. We have had a couple of Catalina's refurbished and sailing here, they can nip at the heals of N25. There is only about half a kt difference in hull speeds for TY around 7m length, however the Catalina is more of a displacement hull than a planning one like the Elliot, Ross etc. There is one coming up for sale as the owner has recently died, he was in to process of renovating it. Been a fresh water boat for last 10-15 yrs at least.
  19. The WitchCraft is a fine boat. That one was built by a joiner in Rotorua. Spent most of its life on Lake Rotoiti. Would be well worth a look. The Gazelle is another fine boat. Another overlooked design is the Catalina 7.

  21. I've been pointed to Napisan or fabric whiteners for cleaning up sheets, lines etc. Active stuff sodium percarbonate, sodium tripolyphoshate and sodium alkyl Benzene sulphate ... Any experiences?
  22. Looking for a trailer yacht event with a difference, the 2016 Rotoiti Classic may just be the event for you. This year’s Classic is offering short, medium and long haul formats and naturally some after race socialising. Did we mention the multi hull division ... we now have 3 trailer tri's on the lake, so here's a chance to sail something different with some other trailer tri's. Check out the Racing talk forum for more details. Thanks
  23. Allan Civil Memorial Rotoiti Classic: 26 November 2016 Looking for a trailer yacht event with a difference, the 2016 Rotoiti Classic may just be the event for you. This year’s Classic is offering short, medium and long haul formats and naturally some after race socialising. Did we mention the multi hull division as well. The 'Classic' course will come in three lengths, Short, Medium and Longhaul. The small boat course is designed to allow smaller boats to compete and have a cruising feel to it. They will do one lap of the lake (then light the BBQ for the rest). The medium caters for the
