So true Jon. This whinge of mine came about as I am about to embark on a long journey of restoring a 'plastic classic' from UK that sailed here to NZ many years ago. I peruse a lot of online DIY boat restoration youtube video and readership, such as 'Good old Boat'. I am learning a lot, but so, so many times, the products these people are using or recommend are just not available here. Some of things are not small brands either. 'Total Boat' epoxy products appears to be a big player in North America and Europe, and 'Awlgrip' is a HUGE name internationally ---- we are in the year 2022

This could be quite an expansive subject applied to many genre, but I am limiting it to paint and epoxy products. **Why can't I get 'Total Boat' epoxy range in NZ? Why are we stuck with just West System and a couple others? **Why can't I get Epifanes "Rapid Clear' in NZ? Why can't I get most Epifanes paints and varnishes in NZ? **Why are we stuck with just International Paints and Altex Paints and a couple other small brands. **Why can't get Alexseal paints in NZ? **Why can't I get Awlgrip in NZ? **Why can't I get the world famous "Pettit Trinidad" anti-fouling range in NZ? I

I see your point, though you were not privy to the phone and text messages with the guy that I had. The guy mucked me around in my opinion, and I guess it's a cue to be wary of one message members to a certain extent. Mods can remove my post if they wish, but until then my post stands as is.

Tire kicker

I will eventually probably be pulling the Yanmar out of my new boat. Nothing wrong with the engine, I just have no love for inboard engines Hit me up sometime Kev, if you might be interested

I'd vote for the new Major if he put forward a bill to ban all mobo's...and jet skis...and generators...

Surely the big question is....what do the computer models show what happens when Rangitoto blows itself up again....it is a case of 'when' not 'if' from what I have briefly read on the subject. Hope I am somewhere northward on my boat when that happens as will be like a mini atomic bomb hitting Auckland when it does happen.

Price reduced to $440 and please no more tire kickers

PRICE REDUCTION Full package (incl. Gull oars) $280 Without oars (but everything else incl.) $220

It took my apparent ignoramus comment, to bring this all out.. You should. write a book, Wheels, you have been through and seen a bit in your maritime life.

What I find funny is that "Are you wearing your life jacket" is a mantra of a lot of boaties, but they then allow a bomb on their boat in the form of a gas cooker. Much like people that buy Bavaria mono's and Condo Cats - I just don't get it. But hey, just my opinion. And if it proves to be lithium, then that raises all sorts of questions about competency of installs....there are probably some rubbish lead acid installs, but who has really heard of major fires and explosions from them?
-
NZ Herald says gas bottle, but if lithium rumour is right then that will be interesting.

Another tick for alcohol cookers

Bad Kitty is correct. A fixer upper will break you in so many ways. Triple whatever you think it is going to cost, then add in 10% for the psychologist you will need to see as the refit drags on and on and on.....

storing paper charts on board - whats your method?

Mobile phones don't need to be within cellphone range to give you your lat and long -
Yeah Im not going to put it on for a $1 reserve as it's worth a few thousand at least -- good masts are not cheap. Just was after an idea of both mast, and sails including furler, if its $4K, $5K, $6K or more if in quite good shape. I understand a brand new mast these days for a 28 foot plus boat, would be north of $8K .... and that is without all the fittings, stays - then a suit of sails on top....might start auction at $3K no reserve....
-
I sailed about 20 years ago when I wanted to learn about sailing, on Chubasco for a day with Mike Kalaguher (the then owner who also wrote a very good book on the Sounds New Years Murders) - felt a very solid boat from memory. Saw it for sale on Tme not too long ago.
-
Just out of curiosity, I'd be interested. I did follow that auction with interest

You could be onto something Steve. If MC gear works well at 100K on a bike, it is sure to work even better on my speedy vessel roaring along at 5 knots Edit: Where's KM when you need him? He flies around on an MC too. I hear he even keeps a eye on this forum 😉

How long did it take for the coating to shred? I was thinking of buying.a set of Gill WW gear but you have given me pause...
