Aha... but are we expecting any unforeseen circumstances?

If the stern tube is threaded to the cutlass then the threaded rods/studs would not work. 9mm drill... drilled a fraction less depth (say 3 to 5mm less) than the lag screws will go in... do not over tighten just a nip up... if the stern tube is threaded to the cutlass than it is this thread that applies the clampung force and the lag screws are only to stop it unscrewing. I would be more inclined to use Sikaflex 291... a mastic instead of epoxy... put a smear on the threads to lubricate as they screw in and then seals the threads that can then be removed in the future. Do not put 29

Not to tight on the face of it but possibly too loose... there are so many other vairables to consider... Below or above water line. Thread profile on the lag screw and root diameter of the thread. Inboard or outboard How much load... how long are the threads into the timber? What is the potential for water ingress leak into the threads and timber... and the consequence? I personally am a fan of using threaded studs epoxied into the timber with nuts on the outside. this method then seals the timber as well as retains the stud with a good degree of strength into th

The paper material gaskets seal liquids and yes need to be softish, maybe use a little light smear of loctite 515 on both sides of a new gasket. A cross section of the metal gasket will show a wave shape that compresses when the joint is fastened up, one use only... it is only exhaust gases but even a small leak makes a black mess and blind air filters... I always replace this one. Make sure all surfaces are clean flat and dry... a flat oil stone or a flat board with wet and dry sandpaper with a little kero or CRC does wonders to clean up the faces.

What I do for a crust and totally unrelated to sailing....except it floats. I ordered the below 6 months ago and was at the factory acceptance testing in the video 3 weeks ago in Shanghai... and today it has just arrived at work in Laos.... Mainly to haul mining and earthwork machinery.

What brand/model cyliders are people using... I now need to buy one.

I think the pressure valve is for the water pressure in the tank, not the engine coolant which you correctly point out is low pressure.... And the water in the cylinder will be some 15C below boiling if the engine is at 85C....below boiling point asuming we are sailing at sea level...😲

Pulled out the Gas Califont, in preparaition of installing a 25L engine heated hotwater cylinder. We always motor about an hour a day to and from anchorages and moorings... should be enough. Does anyone have experience they would like to share? Replaced the copper and brass, blocked grease line to the stern tube with a nice stainless set. I can once again pump grease into the tube before leaving the boat unattended without water dripping... Will go dripless seal in the future. What grease are others using? Replaced the little toy Rule shower/basin/sink grey water sump set up, w

Mate, I was having a little lay down in the garden the other day chatting with some of the veges as I do from time to time. You should hear what some of the spring veges had to say about their treatment... Potatoes being peeled alive, beans being scalded in hot steam, tomatoes being plucked and quartered... and as for the purpose built torture device the "Grater", mere mention of the word made the carrots shiver. And the words they used to descibe vegans, well!... made me blush like a beetroot they did!
