  1. I suppose I should add that I have heard other stories about GHMV body corp, enough to make you think they are not entirely rational.
  2. And again http://www.desdemonadespair.net/2015/05/image-of-day-72-km-of-illegal-fishing.html
  3. You must be good at retrieving, I could never get it in the same place twice
  4. Guess that proves cruisers are safer than racers???
  5. Not a boat, but I'm learning a lot and enjoying it http://www.thequestquotient2011.blogspot.co.nz/
  6. What would you do it in? http://volkscruiser.blogspot.co.nz/2015/05/just-couple-of-boats-in-anchorage.html
  7. I'm not sure whether that was a compliment or not
  8. This thread brings to mind a little cruise i did years ago. I must have been around 13 or 14, it was my last year in P Class. Faced with a long weekend with no racing scheduled a mate and I went for a cruise. 2 P class, one pup tent, 2 sleeping bags and some food. Pretty much circumnavigated Whangarei Hr in 2.5 days. Yes my parents were involved, they dropped us at the Yacht Club and picked us up when we got back. Bloody good fun. They'd probably get arrested for allowing it today.
  9. That would depend on the total number of boats out that day??
  10. Hey Dambo, empty your PM box!
  11. It's under serious consideration. Current plan is a trip to one of the island groups next year, probably Noumea, as a shakedown for some longer stuff shortly thereafter, this would be a nice kick off.
  12. Hi Doc Just got home. On Tues we sailed from Orongo Bay to Waiwhapuku Bay, then caught about 40 under sized snapper and had steak.
  13. Spencers are cool. He says sitting at anchor in the bay of islands on a Spencer. Honestly every time I go out my respect for his work grows
  14. Wow - Ninja firefighters!!! I had a crew once who was a world class rock climber, his rope work and knot tying made the rest of us look like rank amateurs.
  15. Initially ,Like many others here I am sure, they seemed to be breaking laws and recklessly endangering lives. But I watched a TV series on them last week (admittedly from their viewpoint), and now this , I am tending more towards banaari's sentiment above.
  16. I'm changing my mind about these guys http://www.desdemonadespair.net/2015/04/poaching-vessel-thunder-sinks-in.html
  17. Don't laugh, we met a 37 fter that had taken 30 days to do a 1000 mile passage. When we asked what had gone wrong they said nothing, they liked to take the sails down around 4 pm and have a prayer or two, then dinner and bed and would decide whether or not to put the sails back up the next morning. Each to their own I guess, they seemed happy enough. To me the difference between racing sand cruising isn't speed (yes my boat can go fast), it's deciding when to depart and sailing efficiently without breaking the boat or the crew. Racers can't do either (and win).
  18. Plus I had been hammered with fish all the way from Mangonui that morning. Had fantastic four days, felt like I had a bonus extension to summer. Amazed at the difference in climate between here and the Bay.
  19. Talked about it with the management and decided we are cruisers not racers. Will keep a watching brief to see if they do anything to accommodate a cruising fleet
  20. That's the guy. You must be older than me
