    Boat wifi

Are you talking inshore/coastal or in the middle of the pacific?
  2. And remember the swing! set it too close and you'll be woken up on the tide change
  3. My better half is really doing awesome work on the boat while i'm at work
  4. After a month of sanding/epoxying/painting in a 35deg room the beam is finally back ready to be installed this weekend!
  5. We have two samson post's and run a bridle for our mooring connection, same when we're on anchor we just swap it out for a 3 strand snubber setup
  6. And that is why no sane leader will ever do anything more than talk. The best western countries take in sub 200k of refugees each year, Nobody is prepared to pay the bill or take the people that a NK war would cause. SK's economy would stall from the few that would make it across the DMZ. China would most likely take a few for the cameras and then shoot anyone else crossing the Yalu river
  7. Something to note, Butane boils at 0c whereas LPG is -45ish so you may find your cylinder freezes up if you try and pull off alot of gas
  8. One wonders how long till someone thinks like a Mackenzie Basin farmer around 97
  9. This is telling: I-Tech 1 I-Tech I is a proposed theoretical antifouling product to be used by non-professionals (to be applied by brush/roller) for use on yachts and pleasure craft only (
  10. So the not-marketing-wank name is "medetomidine" and is used in the vet world for anesthetic. If you're having trouble sleeping this will help you: http://dissemination.echa.europa.eu/Biocides/ActiveSubstances/1327-21/1327-21_Assessment_Report.pdf It does indeed sound like this may stay a pro-level application only as it should be fatal in humans. LD50 is 30mg/kg in Rats http://sitem.herts.ac.uk/aeru/iupac/Reports/1771.htm Thankfully they seem to be talking about 0.1% in application which if it's by volume would be around 40ml per 4L of antifoul. It breaks down in water over 11
  11. Looks interesting, It's targetting a specific type of pest and the science behind it passes the sniff test. You'd need to combine it with a slime release to get a decent all round performance. Not under way for AU/NZ Approval tho
  12. I did look at interprotect but ruled it out early on due to us wanting to stick with 1 pack paints, In the end we went with Everdure 50/20/10/0 + West 105, This seems to be a common way these boats are built. Some skip the evedure and I'm pretty sure 90% of our beam damage wouldn't be here if they had used everdure
  13. Designer used plain 105 to join the sections together with the odd screw Thanks for the Tufnol info, thats exactly what it looks like
  14. These are the wear pads that position the beam, So far I haven't ID'ed them but it's some sort of fiberglass and red resin, Flex's pretty well so I was thinking it might be a phenolic resin type. Anyone seen them before? I need to get a few new ones
  15. Loads of food for thought here. We were hoping to avoid 2pack systems but it's worth considering again Most of the people were very much in the school of thought to slap on what ever's on sale and 1-2 coats primer then 1+1 under/top coat. 4 coats of primer is whats in the international guide so it's what we'll keep doing In my testing, we found that straight wests at 30c would only penetrate around 1mm of a douglas fir offcut we had, When using everdure we got 4-5mm of penetration. We were concerned it wouldn't seal 100% so we have done a thin coat of wests after ruffing up the surfa
  16. Ok so we've got 2 beams out of Catknapp at the moment for repair and i've been getting quite a bit of "feedback" from non-marine friends about how crazy we are for following the paint vendors instructions, we're pissing money away and getting no value from it, blah blah blah. These beams required a crane to haul out our wheelhouse and pull them out, They are a royal PITA to do anything with so I'm not wanting to compromise their lifespan with short cuts, However, all this chatter has got me wondering if there's anything to it. We're using international 1 pack so the system as per Internati
  17. That may happen on the low-end walk-ins but as late as 2013 it was St John's national policy to fill in part of the acc claim form around the location and time of the accident, They also report to WorkSafe/ACC all calls from a commercial premise. If you don't want to believe the numbers then nothing I can say is going to convince you otherwise, Everyone here myself included can think of many silly examples of H&S but we often don't think/remember all the times where PPE or H&S procedures have saved someone's life or limb, When you cast a wide net you always get a few things you nev
  18. The ACC claims rate for workplace accidents has fallen from 158/1000 FTE to 107/1000 FTE from 2002 to 2016. I'm not going to raise specific scenarios as for everyone I can dream up you can dream up a counter. I honestly dont know if all H&S changes over the past 20 years have been effective but the overall trend is showing us work places are safer now and fewer people are injuring themselves
  19. His whole argument get's nulled by the fact that law is "all practicable steps" if an accident were to occur where you didn't follow a practice that others in your industry do then you'd get nailed, It's also assuming that risks can be accurately identified and located prior to an event so that staff can take precautions only when around these areas or processes. It has been shown time and time again that when money and safety meet in a company money always wins and outside regulation is needed to keep workers safe, Self-regulation has always been a joke. His comparisons to pilots checking
  20. Only a specific type that fell out of favor in the early 90's, Pretty sure most are 6061 these days so there's a good chance his tank may be ok but also may not
  21. I think rule of thumb is twice the thickness for mild steel to aluminum conversations
