  1. Noel Barrott raced Kochab II in the 1970 Solo Tasman. If it is Noel of the Sina interestingly the long time owners of Kochab II / Starfire are CCA medal recipients just like Noel and Latira. https://www.cruisingclub.org/award/far-horizons-award-kaspar-and-trisha-schibli http://markwallaceshipwright.com/projects/sail-boats/starfire.php
  2. Crikey the price just keeps on dropping and the comments keep on coming. https://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1713454680 Appears maybe the vendor also owns the Robyn Gae. The last time I saw her. Also owned Kochab II a Buchanan 53 yawl I remember as a lad.

  5. Had normal domestic grade carpet on our cabin sole for yonks. Made a thin cardboard pattern and gave it to my carpet supplier. All edges and floor frame cutouts professionally overlocked and still in good nick.

  7. Crikey ,you are right JB it could have been a great home.
  8. Meanwhile, a big black yacht destined never to feel the wind in her sails is causing headaches for Fitzroy Yachts. On Friday night contractors attempted to blow up the framing which supports the 33m sleek vessel on the company's forecourt near Ngamotu Beach. The aim was to have it fall on its side on the ground so the yacht could be broken up and demolished. But the explosives proved ineffectual and the yacht, named the Northwind when it arrived at Port Taranaki in February 2008, remains firmly in place. The sorry history of the yacht-which-never-was included it being shipped to Ne

Crikey, the last time I saw her she was looking decidedly ruff. Pics lifted from Waitematawoodys
  13. In some shed somewhere. https://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1704186507 Shame the deck hatches cut into the king plank though.

  15. Wasn't this cutie Dickos. Crikey the price has dropped quite some since it was last on the market. https://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1704668080
  16. Authur Piver borrowed a 25ft trimaran of his own design built by a amateur home builder in San Fransisco to undertake a 500 mile qualifying passage and perished at sea. Interestingly the original Golden Globe required no such prior sea passage experience to enter and Chay Blyth crossed the start line with his bilge keeper set to sail by others and read books on how to sail as he journeyed on. He thought broaching was normal boat behaviour. Robin Knox made the subsequent BOC challengers qualify beforehand 14 years later on. Shame about the cost of the book that Tetley wrote but considering
  17. Having clean out 900 x 900 30mm Forman Acoustop free. Pick up Ponsonby or Westhaven.
  18. Just finished re reading A Race To Far by Chris Eakin and I was reminded of how Crowhurst impacted on Nigel Tetley . Crikey they are still pumping out movies about that dickhead. Nigels widow Eve passed away recently in Alderney aged 72 and Chris has some insightful interviews with all three of the wives of Tetley Moitessier and Crowhurst. Well worth a read. Anybody got a copy of Trimaran Solo by Nigel Tetley.

    Stuffing box

Are you greasing the gland once you have finished replacing the packing.
  20. Zozza you need to go back to Marks post which hits the nail on the head. The dodgy deals being done behind closed doors by Panuku over the marinas attached leasehold lands is just the tip of a divestment tsunami that is about to scuttle this cities future for many decades to come. Council has sold down its shares ,debt ceiling reached if not breached so the next and only option is to sell down assets and annually ramp rates. Carparks will suit Mr Speedy as he has done very well from the hospital one and golf courses will go quickly there after to others followed by a loosening of Watercare
  21. I am just banging on in my usually inimitable way about how Panuku is laying in bed with Mr Speedy and Empire Capital and the public is the only one getting shafted.
  22. Crikey a Leopard 39 just like the one in the Southern Ocean vid. Thief just may have seen the clip on Crew and got all excited.

  24. Correct there Kevin, no sign of a drogue of any sort apart from the warp streamed and no sail out so just motoring. Not sure that would be my choice but they certainly were not looking stressed. I have no experience running off in a sea like that in a catamaran but it is bloody uncomfortable in a mono especially when you get pooped and flooded below as Susie Goodall in the GGR recently found out in far lesser conditions. Be bloody bedlam if the sea crested and then broke all over you but maybe the multi would just float on top of it all. Andrew Fagan describes Swirly being shunted sideways
