I thought this guy was pretty keen to jump in with the orca http://www.stuff.co.nz/travel/destinations/nz/83945845/drone-captures-army-bay-orca-encounter I've sailed a laser around 2 metres from a couple of orca's in Manly on Whangapoaroa and didn't feel very keen to get in the water with them. They still have teeth and are alot bigger than me!! Pretty sure I'd come out worse out of a misunderstanding.

my head has just stopped hurting!

mmm carbon hinge on the instrument panel too. wow smithy thats taking it to the nth degree. Now we have to see if its the carbon panel or the 400kg on the bulb making a performance difference.

get a ross 780 !!! They are the the best combination of speed and cruisability ever. This one is a great buy at 18k. I know the vendors and they have brought another boat so are pretty keen to sell her. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/boats-marine/yachts/trailersailer/auction-1148092080.htm

yep I reckon a lifejacket would have saved him. his mate was wearing one and managed to swim the 500 metres to the beach. oh well he won't make that mistake again. lets hope that the fizz boaties learn from this. Darwins theory in practise I guess.

if I remember correctly she had a full set of storm shutters in the quarter berth made out of plywood ( of course). we never had to use them.

Has anyone found any video of the sailing. The quick bit of Jo aleh and Polly powrie planing to the finish looked epic. But I can't find any video anywhere on the net

She still looks well looked after too. My advice would be to get a thorough survey if she passes survey you have a lovely boat for a bargain price

I'm Charles son and we owned peridot for 18 years. Wonderful boat. Very slippery downwind. Comfortably quick upwind. She was well looked after and really a hell of alot of boat for the money. Not an off shore boat but we did cook strait in her I n all conditions multiple times. You need to keep on top of the maintenance as always with an elderly wooden boat. But the Spencer 40,s offer great value yachting

Video of the ssanz 100
-
yup its was mainly the background lights that make the fin boat hard to see. Bean rock was also hard to see. no fault of the race committee.

The mighty Marshall has had a series of ups and downs so far. The Ssanz 100 was a thoroughly enjoyable race and a well successful first 2 handed race together for Phil and Smithy. With Smithy working offshore and Phil having had a losing argument with a running skilsaw in June we didn’t make the 60 so it was all on for the 100. Due to Phils hand still recovering full strength Smithy volunteered to do bow which was greatly appreciated by the intelligent (?) autohelm ( Phil) which is a debatable role at the best of times. We had a conservative start off the line (planned of course) with t

Trailer yacht is the ultimate if you're looking for low cost sailing. When she's parked on your driveway during the week she costs you nothing!! That F6000 in nelson looks pretty good. They will have better resale value than the young and sail upwind better than the young. Nice boats!! Its well worth getting into some local racing for the family as this gets everyone used to sailing. When we started on the trailer yacht route the plan was to tow the boat with our camry Gracia, I ended up buying a petrol toyota surf for $ 1000 just to tow the boat as we were dipping the car in salt wa

Hi damien we are a trailer sailing/ racing family in Auckland. But originally from wellington. The sounds is a fantastic and beautiful area to cruise but get a boat which motors well as the winds can be in predictable. Tasman bay is also unreal in a trailer uaxht as there are loads of estuaries with white sand beaches to dry out in. In teems of boat I've owned a young 780 water ballested boat. She was cheap, light and roomy. A great first cruiser. The downside is they don't sail very well, but that's what you have a decent outboard for. We now have a ross 780 which in my opinion is the best co
