  1. I just look at metvuw and windyty 10 day forecasts or listen to marine radio 3 day outlook, last time I checked looked like all westerly which is good to get out to the Barrier but its nice to get something from North or East to come back on rather than bash back into strong SW.
  2. sounds like fun we will be cruising the Gulf so may try and head that way if weather allows. Will have a 1 year old on board so will need to be a bit cautious and keep everyone happy..
  3. Hi does anyone know if they still do the New Years Eve thing on Mercury Island, went there a few years ago and it was a good family friendly night and lots of boats in the bay.
  4. Thats the Xmas spirit spirit in action, nice one that man
  5. judging by the atmospheric conditions and the degree of sea level rise that photo appears to be taken around 1983 or 1984?
  6. Just run a generator with elec heater/s for the few hours a day you will need it, heater is cheap and the generator will be usefull for other things
  7. the pipis clean up just as well with breadcrumbs or porridge in the bucket of seawater overnite, if you don,t have cornmeal.
  8. Seems he has decided to keep it in the boat.
  9. I will ring the guy and see if he has it still, it may have its own fuel pump or you could have a small header tank, it will only use a couple of litres a day, and heats the domestic water as well.
  10. 3 pages back someone said " this is my last comment on this" or something similiar Chrisc think about paragliding they are so much more portable and easy to setup than a hanglider, the feeling on my first flight was literally like being Superman !
  11. I know someone up that way that may want to sell a used diesel fired water and cabin heating system, heats the boat via a number of small radiators each with its own thermostat and fan. Was in the cat I bought in Aus.It would involve a fair bit of instalation though with pipes running to each radiator. The webasto? diesel air heating units look pretty good.

    life raft

Yes I,ve got a couple of workmates that are keen to float down the Wanganui river but I think I,d rather take the big boat out to the barrier with the stove fridge surfboard etc etc. The risk with the liferaft down the river would be it falling apart halfway between nowhere and having to walk out or get a lift in another boat, would probably need to take another one as a spare, could also be a pretty slow trip if you had to go against the wind at any stage. Don,t think it would look good if we had to get rescued.
  13. if you have enough battery power just run a small inverter to power your 240 v charger?

    life raft

I nave 3 rafts in the garage , 1 must be 20 years out of date, might pop one up to go down the local river one day, do they have valves like inflatables for pumping up and deflating. A drift down the wanganui river perhaps? Although it might cause a few false alarms.
  15. Idid a repair on a 40 mm cut in an inflatable with white bathroom silicon . Built it up like a patch and smoothed it with water, still good 8 years later.
  16. AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE IT IS GOOD TO KEEP WEIGHT OUT OF THE ENDS, to reduce pitching and hobby horsing, NOT MUCH CHOICE WITH YOUR OUTBOARD AND SELF STEERING oops accidental cap lock, but I would not try to balance that on the bow if it is possible to move that weight further back, all the weight of the inboard etc that you have removed will be much more than the outboard weight, and you will just have to fine tune the trim once back in the water, You may find that it is floating stern high.
  17. Could maybe make a cheap launch out of it, cut the keel down to a 100mm stub and remove and sell the sailing gear and rig, wouldn,t be a lot of strain left on the structure if cruising the Gulf at 6 knots, shallow draught, diesel inboard, and a fairly comfortable and roomy interior?
  18. is that a raymarine rotary drive ap motor , if so I may know a guy with 1 new one and 1 used that may be surplus to requirements.
  19. As long as you have an autopilot or self steering reefing lines at the mast works ok, and those sorts of details are often changed as you get used to the boat, its not that hard to change lines back to the cockpit which will make things easier and safer. Most peoples first boat is not their last boat , just pick one at the right price so that you don,t loose too much if you later decide to change. Raising the main is sometimes easier at the mast, if you have to clear lazy jacks etc.
  20. just use your garden hose to siphon it out, you don,t need to suck to start it flowing , just run water in from the tap then disconnect and water will flow out as long as the end is lower than the bilge, Then you can clean and flush it a few times.
  21. think i might have 1 from a pelin carabou 20 ft its flat steelplate,
  22. What its worth and what you can sell it for are 2 different things, If you can find the person that is ready to buy what you have at new price and yours is as good as new then you will be able to sell at a fair price, If you want to know what it is worth in 7 days time then list it on trademe for $1 reserve. { probably not much} I have 2 good as new sets of shafts and folding props myself, probably over 6k to replace, I listed them on TM for 700 a set with no interest at all, but for the right person it would be a bargain. Its all depends on how long you want to wait for a sale. Maybe a mar
