I only whack my head on stationary objects when I'm wearing a hat, the peak tends to cut your upwards peripheral vision . In fact it was a leather acubra (dunno how to spell it) and it prevented blood on Squids deck as it saved abrasions and undoubtedly restricted my immediate upward vision.
