Rigid boom vangs

Norwegian Blue

Recommended Posts

Opinions for or against? Anyone have one and thinks it is a bad idea?

They are a fairly substantial investment but I would prefer not to have the boom crashing down all the time, or munting the lifelines and stanchions as it currently does.

I am also doing a lot of shorthanded sailing, so my thoughts were that reefing and flaking the main after sailing must be much easier with one?

I'm thinking the same for the same reasons so I am fitting one.

Sigh.. just did a whole "how to do it" post.

Ran out of time.

Hit back, which normally restores it and it was all gone.

Biggest bummer was I was going to do a save and stick it on the other web site...

.

.

Another waste of two hours.

Topping lift = up

Boom Vang = Down...

Or go the Bethwaite way...

Put the rigid bit on top of the boom, and a track on the mast, and forget about springs.

Too easy!

Thanks for the comments. I'll be fitting one for sure.

I've seen an upside down vang (gnav) on a Laser Vago but the main was specifically cut to accommodate the strut. Great on a dinghy, knot sure how that would work with a sail that needs reefing?

I'll give you a call Mr Changed.
