Guest 109
Going back on mooring. 4G sim on a cheap monthly plan, turn siren off to spare the livaboards, pir inside, IR beam across easiest boarding area…..any other precautions? Spreader lights strobing on activation. Can control from app. Was thinking of a solar Eufy 4G LTE camera up mast but a bit over the top…? Half a boat buck. Obviously visit the live aboards with liquid offerings would be the best option. One of those fake hawks on top of dodger for unwelcome visitors of feathered kind. Guest 109
Just found that you can only use the wifi to stand alone base modem router Eufy camera here as Eufy obviously has a no sell to nz public agreement with distributor here for 4G LTE NZ version. So we get screwed again. Price goes to 3x.

Guest 109
Ok, so bare minimum. Road spikes so if the leopard seal comes back he will baulk at my open transom.

The most I've seen used is a bit of plastic net to keep the ducks off. Mind you, that is up a river where there are lots of ducks that like hoping on to open transoms. Owha, that leopard seal, I haven't heard her being reported around Auckland for several years. Has she wondered off? got a mate? or am I just living under a rock. Has anyone else heard of or seen that leopard seal recently? Agree with khayyam and the river dwellers, locking the boat just makes more damage when they break in. All I've ever heard stolen is fishing gear and booze. Oh, and a whole boat once, that was a bit of a major. They were trying to get home to Barrier and put petrol in it, it was a diesel launch, engine ran away, blew up and sunk. The guy rescuing them got suspicious when one of the guys was trying to swim away from the sinking boat with a very nice socket set... If you manage to work it out, I would be interested in how to set up a cheap cellular / Internet of Things link to monitor boat stuff though, like batteries and bilge pump. The ducks nuts would be a two way system to turn my fridge on remotely, then everything will be nice and cold before I even get to the boat (for the Westhavenites, being on a mooring means I don't have shore power and don't leave the fridge on 24/7 if I'm not on the boat). aardvarkash10 1,056
I get the feeling razor wire wouldn't work in these cases. https://youtu.be/5WukKFYe6Jg?si=ID8m3TEqWeBB2XNb
NZTiger 20
You could try a Eufy Solocam S340 + Old mobile phone with wireless hotspot + Cheap mobile data plan. - The camera is stand alone and doesn't require the base station to operate and you can have more than one connected to the app if you need to. - The camera has a battery, small solar panel, motion detector, external alarm, rotating camera, voice output and flashing lights. - The app that controls it will inform you of any motion detection events. You can then view the camera through the app and manually inform the intruder that the police are on the way. - You could set it up to do any combination of: informing you of detection events, switch on the lights, activate the alarm. (depending on the time of day) - Camera would be mounted externally and independently on your deck and the phone would be connected to USB power inside the cabin. - The sensitivity of the motion detector can be adjusted to not pick up seagulls (or maybe you want that).
khayyam 88
Pole or swing mooring? I'd imagine the motion detection would be going off all the time on a swing.

Yeah, you'd want to be selective about camera placement. There's functionality to select areas within the frame where the motion detector is active. I'd either be mounting it high pointing downward to the deck with anything outside the hull shape not checked for motion detection, or just place the camera in the cabin.
