mischief 5
Has anyone managed to go through the 'new' CAT 3 process yet? Planning my application at the moment as I expire this year. It will be interesting to see what is actually required this round and how much discretion inspectors will have. I had thought that I would be all good with an update to my flares as the SRS I got the 2022 cert under are still valid. If we really have to upload as per below, its going to get interesting... - the example yacht manual is appendix 5 is a bit OTT for CAT3 surely? Only needed a plan of where stuff is, a MOB procedure and manuals last time -don't have and didn't need an MMSI last time- no AIS or DSC so didn't see the point... -gas is a whole other saga - my insurance company were happy with the condition report I got this year so hopefully that's enough? -fire extinguishers - didn't need a cert last time, and they are relatively new and showing in the green so fingers crossed? cheaper to buy new ones than have them certified.... don't get me wrong, I don't have any objections to the gear etc needed, and I keep the boat pretty up to date, but the only thing I need the cert for is Coastal.... hopefully it dosen't get too hard for smaller older boats to continue to compete.... CarpeDiem 510
Fire Extinguishers have always required a current yellow "check" tag. It's always been cheaper to get the yellow tag check done than buy new, but once the cylinder needs hydro testing, per the stamp on the base, that's when it becomes cheaper to recycle and replace with new. I think we paid ~$60 to get 4 yellow tag checked last year at some place down by the tank farm. New is $200 best case - for the yellow tagged ones - I note bunnings have some pretty cheap but that would still be $100/year and I doubt they have the yellow tag so won't meet the rules. Gas is a cluster f**k - I will leave it at that - there's enough on here already! It's going to be interesting!
Clipper 358
How about the inspection costs? My cat 2 check last year in September cost $325. Now $490. Its a big number for (usually) 1 or 2 races only.
Clipper 358
Re reading that list above, the first aid and advanced sea survival are not usually YNZ requirements, but club specific. Seems a bit odd

The inspectors are being shafted also, I charged (my fee) $200 for Cat 3 and $235 for cat 1 &2 I’ll now get paid by YNZ and Cat 3 is $150 less PAYE so let’s call it half as much give or take and as a PAYE employee, I’ll not be able to claim my travel against my tax either as I was able before as a contractor Only half (approximately) the inspectors have re signed up. The requirement under cat 3 (reg 19.11) has always been the diagram, as per the example of appendix 5. The full manual is a discretionaly aspect for the inspector and the boat. I would just submit the diagram
mischief 5
yikes - Found my 2022 receipt which was $210, now $345 for CAT3 I feel like the checklist of stuff to upload is a bit sledgehammer to crack a walnut perhaps in that its trying to be generic across CAT1/2/3 - would be clearer to the average person if there was a different upload check list for each category.

If it's paye you are an employee. Employees have an employment agreement. The employment agreement is a negotiated document. Feel free to make reasonable prosals to change it before agreeing to it. 😁Pragmatic employment advice given for free to crew members. Several satisfied customers so far.

Do you know if any of the existing inspectors have signed up with MNZ for cruisers' Cat 1? I know of at least 1 inspector up IT's way who said no way. It is a real worry as to the level/lack of experience "new" MNZ inspectors may have, particularly as their spiel says a second fee will be charged if you "fail" the first inspection. Jon 391
Don’t know of any original inspectors being signed up by MNZ, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t I do know only about half the inspectors have signed with YNZ, however the ones in the likes of the bay only really did Cat 1’s so weren’t interested in the others I've got a few starting to came through for Cat 2 and 3 but haven’t done any yet
