Kiteroa 8
I'm in the market for a cheap skiff hull. There was a I14 or similar on trade me earlier in the week but the listing expired on me before I could get home and buy it! It was out west Auckland if anyone knows the seller. Got a serious project in mind that needs a light hull without much rocker.

Kiteroa 8
does it involve a seagull? Well yes. The rules say the block must be a gull' Everything else is fair game. We're running nitro/methanol these days though.
Kiteroa 8
If you're looking for a project Jordan you really should do this race. It's a true test of boat design and old school engineering. Team NZ have done it a couple of times. Current speed record is 25knots sustained for 3.5 hours. Here are the details: http://www.afloat.com.au/afloat-magazine/2011/july-2011/The_Longest_Seagull_Race_in_the_World http://seagulloutboard.com/?page_id=
Guest
holy crap, so these wouldnt be of much use then! yeah that would be cool, do they allow foiling trimarans?
ballystick 73
WT, the Royal Beach Road Yacht Club (Tauranga) has the hull for you!! Currently it is used for a quick blat around the harbour - checking out suspect craft, socialising with known yachties and investigating the less well frequented parts of the harbour. With the current outboard it planes easily and is available for your use for this prestigious event with your rocket motor!! Hire, borrow or buy it is available to you if you choose. The RBRYC would be supremely honoured if you select the vessel. Guess what the hull is...

Kiteroa 8
Looks pretty flash! Possibly too flash for what I'm planning on doing to it.... That's pretty much what I'm after though.... I'm up against some of these guys:
Kiteroa 8
Some of these guys have some slick gear also:
ballystick 73
W.T. the offer is there, the builder of the I14 (correct) is real keen for you to use it, as he has water flowing through his veins and boat information details saturate his brain cells. How about a possible test run to get an idea of how it would go as the competition looks tough, then possibly it could be taken to the Waikato for you. Otherwise it can be your back up plan. Kiteroa 8
That's a very kind offer, thank you. I'll be down in Tauranga 5th of October (I think) to pick up a couple of new engines, so maybe we could catch up then? There's actually a casual seagull race down there that weekend so we could test run the 14' in that! I won't race in next year’s Waikato race as my partner and I are committed to filming the event as part of a festival film we're putting together. Although a few of us guys from Southern Spars will organise a couple of apprentice teams. The guys would be really keen to get their hands on something like the 14'.

Kiteroa 8
Saw that, but this seagull racing stuff is pretty competitive. I'm not sure I could show up in a tinny and be taken seriously by the old seagull sea-dogs. It's a laugh cause it's a seagull, but some of these old dudes are super switched on with tuning these engines. They cast custom props and some of their engines are cranking close to 8hp. So the only way I can get close them is with a really nice hull. Back in the day Team NZ built a boat for the race. Somehow they got a rare 5R Seagull engine that the sea-dogs couldn't source. TNZ had them for breakfast that year. But they felt sorry for the sea-dogs and gave them their kevlar hull then built a new carbon boat for the next race. The sea dogs imported another 5R from England and tweaked the TNZ hull. Next year TNZ came with a full carbon boat and the sea dogs with the old boat. Sea dogs smoked them.
