Just open your mind and look at where the future people and income will come from! The Marine industry has died? I’m pretty sure most of the industry I talk to are having a fine old time of it, pull ya finga out. I know this will come as quite a surprise, but this is a rich sport, cos when 10 people decide to "play" they need a boat not just a ball. I see no reason I should feel responsible or guilt for belonging to the demographic which is both most able to, and active in the sport. This is not a sport that has lots of opportunity to play around and learn, that in the majority of cases requires both significant parental drive and sacrifice to achieve any involvement by kids. How the sport makes itself attractive and valid to kiwis of the future is thankfully not my problem, but people who find as much wrong with it and allways someone else to blame for it, are much of it IMO! Can I suggest that anyone who blames some imaginary "Aucklandized " "anti Female" style! or to quote Dry Reach The whole culture is medievil and its not just biased against woman! it's biased against dark skinned people and people from poor suburbs / sectors / ethnic groups. yet if we had this "majority's input and involvement we may actually learn a lot and get big number through or into the sport! God help us if we ever let saw these people being helped or mingling with the Squady crowd Is so out of touch you probably don’t actually go sailing, but sit at your computer doing some virtual sh*t. Most of the sailors, Squady and otherwise I know are just plain old Kiwis, Tradespeople, marine industry workers, office workers and nurses…… infact I suggest that more of the most campaigned boats are owned by hands on types than Doctors, but they are almost invariably driven and high achievers, or they would just be down the pub or sitting at home on the computer having a hand shandy like some others. And as for the “anti female style” you mention, I don’t know who BB is hanging with but most of the sailors I have meet are more than happy to keep drinking rum until every woman is a beautiful and desirable creature, so if you are feeling alienated, buy another round, we’ll love you long time. .
