I've just had to replace the throttle cable. Single control with the press button to disengage gearbox type. I've got a 20hp buhk and don't know how to set the idle rpm. Might be a bit high, so would this be the cause of the difficulty in getting it into and out of gear. Reverse is especially difficult.

Good on you. Im struggling to keep a late 70s boat in shape, but it is worthwhile. Mind you, i do like the upgrades

Any suggestions? Do people antifoul them, prop speed, or something else.

How many cylinders? Thats important, but im not sure of the calc.
-
Cheers for that

Do it myself. I have the power.

Not really a hardware item is it? Or upholstery...

She's pretty hard finding the perfect place. Err, you get back around the time I'm off the Thailand however I'm sure we'll be in the same country at some stage. Looking forward to some warmth.

Great thread. I too am inspired. I saw the YouTube video above a few weeks ago and thought it was a great design. Terry, are you a fellow westie? Good to touch base when ur back.

Ouch. CG that would be likely to cut you like a cheese slicer if ur thrown against it at sea. I'd want something to really bulk up the diameter maybe around 10mm for comfort

I'd be very keen but hope to be working at the Am Cup base over summer 2020-21. On for summer 2021 tho. Will follow the post with interest.

Scroll down till you come to the particular inventor, Rik Breur

Sounds great, but...

Marine life has a new ally: Dutch inventor Rik Breur created an environmentally friendly material that prevents the growth of algae, barnacles and mussels on boat hulls. http://bit.ly/2JpUO74

good point. I get withdrawal symptoms if I don't get out every week or so

Great thread. All interesting stuff. At a guess, I'm running my old buhk 20hp around 30 hours a year, tops. Changing the oil yearly would be like a trucky chanching his daily, surely?

Heard of a US millitary sailor going overboard in the Indian Ocean who kept afloat for three days using this method until he was rescued. Several years ago now.

Just let me know where ur anchored as you'll make friend's fast with an ice maker....
-
Haven't tried or seen them but I'd say that the ice making, which draws less power is the base rate, and the ice harvest probably means more ice as it draws more current, ie makes ice faster.

I am aware that in Aussi if youre the skipper and caught intoxicated at anchor, for the night, if convicted you lose your marine AND road drivers license. IMO a bit harsh. And they police it.

I think its called a whisker pole. I had one too, and ended up biffing it. Nevervsurevwhat it did

Has anyone got any ideas for stopping halyrds slapping the inside of the mast, usually detectable all through the friggen night in any bay where theres more than a slight jobble. Im thinking some sort of expanding filler below the lowest exit box, or some other thing to dampen the noise. Theres only the one electrical wire that comes out at the base. Sole mounted mast. Problem is definitely on the inside.

I thought petrol might interact in the area between the diesel and the water, where the bug grows. Kind of like putting a bit of kero in the petrol tank to run through any moisture there. Or was that meths... i dunno
