What was the OUTSIDE temperature? Been 26 here! Got an old sleeping bag and a roll of a foil? Helps.
  3. Yep very much so but have you forgotten the wind turbine? The one you sold me? You said contact Yachting NZ regarding warranty issues when it appeared the controller was not working (it was faulty) which I did and problem (then) solved with a new unit. You passed me on to your supplier which does seem to be different to how you are now talking compared to back then? Since then I have gone to to BLA the new agents with another issue and solved but now the nose cone is cracked, falling apart woukd seem the UV has eaten it and the hub that holds the blades, paint has come off and chips falling o
  4. So..What happened to the Consumer Guarantees Act and Fair Trading Act? The "supermarkets" just ignore them? Buying from overseas is a risky business but we are talking authorised agents here in NZ. Smart Marine is an authorised agent of Navico. I must admit, got well and truly burnt by that outfit marine "deals" who did a brilliant side step by quickly changing the specs of a windlass we bought from them on their webpage after we received it and it's dimensions were wrong, not what was quoted. Didnt think at the time to get a screen grab. Ended up stuck with it as it had been installed and use
  5. Done lots of install work and found loads of crimp connectors with bad connections, one guy had a 600w (from memory) inverter and the connection was bad enough you couldn't touch the connector, it was that hot. It was badly crimped however. I can see the over the top panic that MSA commercial use inspections would bring, aircraft demand the same standards but we are talking private owned boats. We are talking (fused) 12v LOW wattage supply, not 200 amp battery connections which I always crimp and solder. This is LED lighting the guy is installing, maximum current about 3 amps and probably a lo
  6. Thats crazy! Why? Then you had better rip apart all your factory soldered plugs that come on the end of bulkhead mounted sockets and crimp them? Same difference?
  7. Every now and then you come across a business that goes that extra mile and probably worthy of a heads up. A bloke called Hamish runs Wiltons Garage, used to be a servo but they've ripped the pumps out in Mangonui but now does a lot of marine work and Yamaha outboard agents. Not only helpful but reasonably priced (cut a high tensile bolt for us, supplied 2 new lock nuts ..$5!). Need work done in the far Far North, fully recommend them!
  8. These might be an over kill but will last a long time. $2.46 ex china. Personally I don't like crimp connectors, over time the salt air screws with them. If you are not needing to remove the lights again anytime soon, solder, shrink tube and nail varnish is all I do, sealed for life. Solder the two conductors side by side, coat with nail varnish, let dry then shrink tube over the top.
  9. So you are justifying a huge markup on the off chance the product you sell will fail? Who doesn't ring around to get a good price? They are a big well established retailer who were over 100 bucks less than All Marine and Burnsco and neither will supply a tiller pilot new off the shelf until the faulty unit is returned and inspected (I certainly wouldn't if it was me in trade!). A replacement nose cone for our silentwind 400 would be nice. The cone is suffering from UV and gone brittle, cracked (and glued). The blade hub too is slowly chipping away, little lumps falling off.
  10. How? You pay more, get the same 2 year warranty, need the same RMA from Navico when faulty. Makes no sense to pay more simply because a business wants more than the others! Where the hell is dons Emporium!!? You shop there?
  11. "Proper" dealers wanted several hundred more than smarty marine!
  12. DENSO BUTYL - CORROSION PROTECTION - PRODUCTS - Tapes Plus https://www.tapesplus.co.nz/shop/PRODUCTS/CORROSION+PROTECTION/DENSO+BUTYL.html ??? They have a "Denso Butyl Mastic StripA permanently plastic (non-hardening) mastic, mouldable by hand" tape. I can suggest trying Noel at Norsand Boat Yard? He's a wealth of knowledge.094308485.

  14. Can't even get a reply email Matt. Will ring tomorrow and see what's happening.

I second that. The salt has it freezing at a lower temperature and seems to last longer, the beer it keeps cool doesn't though...
  16. Done but...how long!? Has to go to smart marine first who supllied it then to Navico AUSTRALIA. Got the RMA today, now waiting to see what smart marine wants to do. A shame as it worked well under N2K, hardly bothered with the fluxgate and was great under sail using the NASA nmea0183 anemometer via the MFD. Stuck with the old ST1000 which still holds a course using the fluxgate, never worked on NMEA. Tried to get a Palegic but they don't answer emails.
  17. ....our TP32 has lost it just yesterday going to Brodies Creek. Suddenly flies over to port then starboard on both the fluxgate and n2k GPS. Notice a dull glow in the leds on both the port light and nav light. Only bought it in June, probably only done about 40 hours! Sheeeeeee!t!!!
  18. What's a quick connect clip? Photo?
  19. Might work on leopard seals...up the voltage, say, to 200kv? There is a "breakthrough" in anti-barnie stuff ivomectin but as with a lot of other things, not available in little old primitive Enzed.
  20. Use the force Luke(hawk)! Another gimmick. Like the ultrasonic transducers..more holes in the hull.
  21. Expand this to disused moorings. Now where to go in a southerly in Whangarei Harbour? Forget it, as all the best locations are littered with moorings, its something like a mine field! Pickup floats so covered in weed they only pop up on slack tide. Then there is the abandoned "I'll get around to it soon" hulks rotting away. Eventually we found a dubious spot to anchor now in Houhora down from HH5 marker. Every spot that has deep water and swing room in a narrow channel has mooring floats in it and boats. 5 to 1 scope in 5m puts us minimum 25m from moorings that are 20m apart!!!
  22. You can't measure current open circuit, only potential (voltage). If the panel is delivering 5.8amps as in the specs when under full load (short circuit) then there is nothing wrong with it. There should be a voltage drop under load of about 5v. One thing I have come across is electrolysis. The cells are all linked and mostly using aluminium foil which then enters a junction box and using ss screws connect to the copper cables supplying the power. Over time the tabs turn to aluminium oxide unless salt is sealed out. The best sealant I've used is a silicon grease, stays liquid so doesn't dry ou
  23. Fair enough. The NZ Government dumps their unwanted ships at sea!
