  1. indeed! Same arguement I've used in my rebuild of Ballistic. However we both ignore our own labour "costs". Some people can afford to have others do this for them, while others can't and so do it themselves (becasue they can), while others can't afford others to labour but can't do it themselves, while others can afford to have others labour but still want (and can) to do it themselves! I could go on but I'm getting dizzy!
  2. yup - lots and lots of vids around on that. Basically what I did for the new eyebrow windows on Ballistic. With all the new adhesives you don't need the screws/bolts these days.
  3. Nah - don't buy that. Most 'old farts' would actually love to see more younger people on their management committees - at least that's the case in the three clubs I'm a member of
  4. I suspect that it'll end up costing you the same or more to try and recondition those portlights. I started looking at the same idea when I first hauled Ballistic but gave up on it pretty quickly. You are better off spending your time and effort trying to get a good deal out of the manufacturers/suppliers for all (six?). Depending on how they were originally sealed in place it may be almost impossible to remove the frames without damaging the Aluminium - I damaged mine - took me a day of being careful on the first and then 75mins on the second - both looked just as bad! Then you've got
  5. we don't need you driving ambos mate - we need you in schools!
  6. You're all going round in circles arguing semantics. Fundementally, Customs produce a Yacht Pack for rec. vessels entering NZ which is, using their words "ALL you need to know". In that pack is a form where, among other things, you get to declare both flares and restricted med's. Nowhere in their Yacht Pack, nor indeed anywhere on their website do they provide a means to apply for, or fill out a form for, a permit to import for a rec. vessel. That in my view is not acceptable, and frankly incompetence. The Yacht Pack hasn't changed for 4 years so someone has fucked up and should go be
  7. Just further demonstration that Custom are a law unto themselves! Typical of the overbearing bureaucratic nonsense that is destroying this place

that'll be these bits that we hid from the world!
  9. http://www.customs.govt.nz/inprivate/arrivalbyprivatecraft/yachtsandsmallcraft/pages/default.aspx There is just nothing anywhere advising what to do about flares or controlled drugs on board when entering NZ. So I reckon that by declaring them on your Inward Report (in the Yacht Pack) you deem to comply with the permit requirements. This guy needs to be called on this and held to account.
  10. an albino alpine parrot in Greece - love it!
  11. Elenya - did the officer give you a receipt for the morphine?
  12. A bit more digging. Here's where you get the "permit application" - 10working days, Opua and Picton not on the list of approved ports. Clearly this form is for commercial importation but I can't find any other. http://www.epa.govt.nz/hazardous-substances/importing-manufacturing/explosives/explosives-import-certificate/Pages/default.aspx Of course you can always apply for a determination on their ruling here - $1150 - but it's okay because that includes GST! http://www.epa.govt.nz/hazardous-substances/approvals/Pages/Formal-determination.aspx So then I decided to search the Regulati
  13. nope - you only need a permit to import them - not to carry them locally. When you've bought them locally presumably somebody else has already got a permit to import them!
  14. I did the same for about 5mins mattm - frankly its ridiculous. you should be able to search "exploseive permit" on the EPA site and top of the list should be the f**kin permit. I maintain that if there is one (which clearly there isn't) it should be in the Yacht Pack. The officer knows this - he just being a c**t. There is a schedue of deemed to comply explosives but I just can't be bothered going through it - bet flares are actually in there somewhere!
  15. Surely, you get issued with a permit automatically when you fill out the form in the Yacht Pack. If not then the YP needs to be updated to include a permit application form. The officer is probably correct in law - just being let down by the ministry's over paid fat cats in wellington - again - 'cause that never happens!

Nah - on balance NZ will be much better off with a much larger number of teams participating. Besides ETNZ owes NZ nothing - "we" weren't prepared to back the campaign - remember!
  17. NIce - love the new boat name. Enjoy!
  18. write us a short synopsis tomorrow - wife has me chained to the - ahhh - computer tonight!
  19. So what else was unusual in this particular situation?
  20. https://www.stuff.co.nz/manawatu-standard/business/94122195/Motutapu-Island-gets-restoration-funds-from-Doles-new-sponsorship due to reopen for Labour Weekend according to that article. Why they can't just put some signs up saying - please don't walk the island as the track are curently impassable is just bizarre! Bit like closing Motuihe bacause of the slips in Calypso Bay due to the same storm, or Rangitoto because of a potential eruption! H&S laws and their unintended consequences again.

rumours floatign about last week that VOR wanted to give Boat8 to ETNZ. Article in the paper today suggests that Shoey thinks its too hard? These guys beat the world by figuring out how to sail a boat given to them, in three months. I say give them another crack!

sunbrella does strech a little bit over time. So if you think its a ittle loose then play about with the frames and see how much you might be able to "shrink" the patterns (in my world of membrane architecture we call it compensation) to get a better fit. Not too much though - otherwise it'll look like a middle aged puck rocker (me) in skin tight jeans!
