What to look for in an inflatable dinghy as a yacht tender?
ScottiE replied to cj!'s topic in MarineTalk
If you're want to stow it on the deck of a 9.5m boat then stick to soft bottom hulls to keep the weight down. I went for the SP240, but got the factory to up-spec the davit points to use wooden oars rather the the Ali ones. I'm also changing out the plastic bait board slats to composite this winter to cut a bit more weight out. Pimp your pump up! As Carl says - the smaller tubes can tend to get you a little wet but really only in a chop under motor.- 39 replies

Bugger just saw Sierra disappear past HMBM on her way out to the start of the Panmure rally. Quite a few pouring out of the river now.

White Is. saw 113kts for a few mins around 1310. Meanwhile the PW World HQ is being pummelled with a steady 5kt zepher!

. . . give it an hour or two . . .

Yeh - too shitty at 0530 to go out so will have to chance it. Quite pleasant when i left the house but now sitting in a Dr's surgery. The forecast suggests the boat will be fine!

Mate - i paddle to and from the boat at night more often than during the day! But i hear ya. Some of the best paddles I've done are in the river under a full moon! My biggest fear is Will - the big old IOR - letting go - it's really sad to see the state of that now

Got stuck in the office tonight and just got home. Will paddle out in the morning to double check the lines, lash main a bit tighter, close hatches. Wife tells me I'm taking S2 to doctor at 0830hrs so will be before dawn. Oh not on a marina.

do a combination of both and be strict in how you use your data roaming. Some phones even enable two SIM cards for this very purpose

I just got a verbal warning for sanding boat on a Sunday

that's really funny - basically the council can't keep up with itself! That'll learn then for putting out a 9000page pile of dog turd! -

nice work Adrian. There ya go Zozz - ring the council and advise them that the noise you were making was fully compliant with E blah blah blah of the Unitary plan and so you don't recognise the END and as such it shoudl be withdrawn. -

that's exactly the case IT. There's no set noise limits but excessive noise is clearly defined in the Resource Management Act here! http://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/1991/0069/latest/DLM238589.htm don't know where AC's times allowing for excessive noise are set the sooner this PoS legislation is repealed and tidied up the better. -

I cut a couple of bolts off my cradle at 4:30pm yesterday afternoon while neighbours had friends round for a drink on their deck. Popped over and told them first that it would take about 2mins, enjoyed a beer and then went back and did the job. Easy! -
Geez really - how so? I've always found it pretty reasonable

The Law is the Law Zozz! Just be thankful they didn't confiscate your sander, or your rudder! -
Strawman arguement - we're talking AC boats here.
-
Aren't they all generally "slow capsizes"?

www.metvuw.com is pretty good

So the law is here http://www.legislation.govt.nz/regulation/public/2010/0036/64.0/DLM2763501.html The codes of practice or standards cited in the legislation are here http://www.legislation.govt.nz/regulation/public/2010/0036/64.0/DLM2763782.html Just read this and figure it out for yourself!

That's because there are "alternative facts" around that situation that suggests to ACEA that there was no crash! That's the American way these days!
-
Oh and within the next 12 months they won't let you in without a valid gas cert either i'm guessing! As is thier right, whether you like it or not.

Isn't there two issues here? 1. The Regs and whether they are fit for purpose. Having been involved in reviewing standards development myself this does not surprise me. 2. That an effectively private organisation is not prepared to allow you to use a service without an EWOF. That's their right. If you don't like it then don't go there surely is the only option? If noone goes there because of this issue then they might sit up and take notice.
