Drip-Less Packing An alternative to conventional braided packing is Drip-Less moldable packing. The advantage of this type of packing is that it is self lubricating, which eliminates the necessity of letting the stuffing box drip. Drip-Less packing requires two retainer rings of conventional packing. You install a ring of conventional packing, then push Dripless Packing into the box until it is about three-quarters full. A second ring of conventional packing completes the job. Tighten the nut just enough to stop the box from dripping. This type of packing runs hotter than water-lubricated

  3. got it current plotter is a 10yo simrad MFD, cx34 has an "engine" page which could show (control red line etc) 2 engines worth of full instrumentation, batteries etc. via nmea 2000 unfortunately new 16hp engine is not "electronic" and outputs only 4 wires to 4 warning lights on the start panel
  4. does this mean an electronically controlled injection pump over the mechanical, cam driven type injection pump, on most modern small boat diesels?

  9. not looking good wonder if it's time for such modern and expensive commercial vessels to have a "black box" system that uploads essential data via a satellite link
  10. A search and rescue operation is underway after a boat with three people on board "went down" off the Canterbury coast. A police spokesman said emergency services were called to the scene, about 20 kilometres off the Rakaia River mouth, at 4.30 am Sunday. A boat with three people on board had their boat "go down", the spokesman said. The trio had made it into a life raft, he said. The Westpac Rescue Helicopter had been dispatched to the scene, and was searching for the trio. It is not yet known what type of boat it was, or how the boat sunk. http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/73121632/th
  11. took 20 minutes of bottom trawling but found the excuses The much hyped America's Cup World series event in Bermuda will most likely be reduced from four races over two days to a one day three race day event. The six AC45's are being held close to the Hamilton dock in Bermuda waiting and waiting for a breeze that has not appeared. It’s currently gusting to three knots on the race course. Two knots short of a sailable breeze. As Sir Russell Coutt's said in an interview with Shirley Robertson of BT Sports, it will be better to have a three race day tomorrow when more breeze is ex

    Belt alignment

after fitting a brand new engine a year ago the only signs of wear are black alternator belt dust and flaked paint on the crankcase nut esp. new soft belts, seem to shed a bit of dust until they "custom fit themselves to their space" + harden up to check alignment could you drop a steel straight edge into the pulley grooves and then measure across to the front of the engine face or even easier, slip some rectangular wood? blocks between the straight edge and the engine? got to be lots of ways to do it clamp a bit of wooden dowel, alloy tube, steel reb

  19. reducing sail area the old school way probably take me 15? hours to lower the headboard 30cm on this $50 sail by cutting it down, moving the head panels and hand-sewing them back on trick for young players, the dark strips of old double sided tape shouldn't be seen, as the reinforcement panels should be on the other side of the sail............next time

    SSB repairs

thanks for that further info for interested parties http://forum.ssca.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11402 by fairbank56 » Wed Sep 15, 2010 5:58 am Yes, they can be reprogrammed. Iv'e done them many times. The two chips are on the main board (top of radio) under the metal shield. They are labled U22 and U23 and are not soldered. U22 is an EPROM and can be erased with a UV EPROM eraser. U23 is an EEPROM which is Electrically Erased. With an EPROM programmer, once you get the new chips, you could copy the data on them and then reprogram the old chips. U22, a 32K chip, contains program
