  1. Not entirely related except as an example of WTF 12.4 © in Part 5 Cat A - this is for trailer boats and I note in the SI for the upcoming Gulf Classic Regatta - a requirement for all TY even if they're doing the short course/are Div C. boats. "Two red hand-held flares, two orange hand-held smoke torches and two parachute rockets." Ummmm.
  2. I have once, in the approx. 25 years that I've been on the water, seen someone pulled over by the HM - a small launch heading toward the eastern exit of Westhaven, clearly going more than 5 knots, past the HM who was coming in!
  3. I'm off to the warehouse to buy me a paddling pool for beach transits! This has to be done
  4. Damn my crew did a good job on the tinsel - boat looked amazing in the midday sun as I was driving back over the bridge today

    Fouling

How long can you hold your breath for? I'd be diving on that with an implement of crustacean death.
  6. I've been driving all over Akl looking for rolls of tinsel (as opposed to 2m pre-cut lengths at all the $2 shops) the various The Warehouses are all out of stock apparently - any other ideas?
  7. I'll take two books off you for Eric - that will be a massive saving in petrol on your drive home. Will this suffice?
  8. My sails are pretty buggered, can I do the short course?
  9. With allergic children I make gluten-free fritters - 3/4 cup of rice flour, 3/4 cup of corn flour, 1/2 cup of tapioca flour, a teaspoon of baking powder, 2 eggs, a cup (or is it two) of milk. Mash two bananas with a fork and add to the mix. Fry in lots of oil at a medium heat until crispy golden brown. Pour rum over the lot once finished (the kids aren't allergic to rum apparently) Hmmm, the younger child does rather like rum. Hmmm. Am I a bad parent?

We still have the trailersailer in the front yard - was really awesome to sell my last yacht but still have a yacht to go sailing on - last summer we put hard anti-foul on it and put it on the poles at westhaven. Since bringing it home it's cost $0.00 - love it! The new boat on the other hand...

Been reading this - it's really cool! I wish I'd kept such a record when starting out. But then, I also wish I'd plugged into the clubs earlier too. You guys have done a great job - I'll look forward to reading your posts - go well!
  12. I thought you and Angela were retiring to the tropics?
  13. Yay! Steering that works well would definitely be a bonus ????
  14. I feel like I should put a post in here too. David kindly took me on as crew despite my never sailing out of sight of land before - I've been seeking this adventure for many years - what an opportunity! Good company and boat went a long way given I discovered that while I could happily (sometimes confusedly and a little too keen) complete my watches steering the old girl, I struggled with my cooking duties aaaaand I did get a bit over it by the second to last day... however, in hindsight, I now know and could be a bit more,... mentally prepared? I'd definitely do it again Losing the Aut
  15. This curly lettering was printed by one of the people on Trademe and then I applied it - pretty stressful - 3 sets of hands on the big 'S' but the end result was great. But if I was going for a big graphic such as on Marshall Law, I'm thinking that I'd pay someone else to do it...

    Explain it to me

Eric is right - carbon build up - old cars/plugs with significant build up (I remember my little Dashund and before that Triumph) would run on - even if the timing was spot on (which can also cause an engine to run on). Related: I had a little Suzuki GN250 that we did various modification on for fun - we did some careful skimming and swapping of conrod, retarding timing etc - we managed to up to compression significantly and turned it into a semi diesel - little bugger would chug and had to be run out of fuel to kill it. Needless to say like most of them, we eventually chewed out the bi
