  1. Seems like it is a contest between this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/home-living/cleaning-bins/vacuum-cleaners/commercial-vacuums/auction-1199285453.htm And this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/boats-marine/parts-accessories/engine-parts/auction-1200297974.htm
  2. Definitely out of water. On cradle, in my driveway.
  3. Just went and took pics of bilge...it's a deep dark place down there.....
  4. Already tried both the pads and the sausage like things. Both hardly made a dent, plus squeezing them was messy as sh#t. I am looking for a more, well, "powerful and quick" option to get rid of it all - there is a lot.
  5. Hey Eric, just duct taped of the shaft hole for the moment. Cup into bucket? I do not have 4 foot long arms, and even if I did, that would take an age,
  6. Hey guys, how do I firstly get the sludgy stinky diesel and water out of my bilge that has accumulated? It is below the level of the bilge pump down there (it's a full keel deep bilge - must be a good three to four feet deep or more there under the cockpit where it has accumulated). I was thinking drill pump? Any better ideas than that? And, once I pump it out, what should I clean it with? Just a general detergent? Cheers for any thoughts on this.

    Nova 28

Hi mate, yeah she is a C26. Not a complete refit, but some changes yes. I probably purchased the one you were going to see - got it from GBI
  9. By the way, what happened to your Contessa 26 back here? She still in NZ? Mine is a Canadian version too, bought by a Kiwi doctor working in Canada in the early 70's. I think he shipped it back here rather than sailed it, when he moved back with his family. He may have sailed it, but not really a boat to fit a family in.
  10. I am hoping the ultra long 25" shaft will do the trick - I am sure it will pop out now and then still. A sistership, BIKA (see pic) sailed from Norway to Tonga with a ratty old 4hp. So, it can be done. I will have a much better bracket and much better outboard motor than them. Sounds like you had a great adventure. Did you find the cockpit drains an issue, i.e water coming back up?

    Nova 28

Get rid of your old inboard, and repower with my, year 2010 , twin cylinder 14hp Beta Diesel Engine that I am selling. Way smaller footprint engine than what you currently have I'd say, and a twin 14hp Diesel only 6 years old will have more than enough oomph for a Nova 28. Just a thought.
  12. At the risk of this becoming an Inboard Diesel v Outboard on small yachts thread, I will list off a few reasons off the top of my head in no particular order: 1) My ultimate aim with this boat is to have no holes below the waterline - obviously that can't be achieved with a raw water cooled inboard. 2) By having no thru-hulls the maintenance of said thru-hulls (which catastrophic failure can lead to disaster) becomes a non-issue - because I won't have any to maintain. 2) The diesel smell - I really don't like it. 3) My boat is a long keeler. A decent tiller controlled outboard will give m
  13. You just described Donald Trump. Weird thing is, I agree with the Orange Orangutan about the TPP trade deal, even if I know he only is against it for his own BS reasons.
  14. Mind you, some of the worst customer service on the phone I have ever had has been courtesy of "home-grown" workers. At least the Asian call centre workers are eager to help you, even if you may need to convert the pidgin english into some form you can understand.
  15. Slight thread drift, but call centres full of asians are the result of globalisation and free trade that allows western companies to shift these operations overseas (or bring in cheap workers in as the case may be), to cut costs dramatically by paying low cost workers to do all the jobs "home-grown" (can't think of a better term at the moment) people used to do. Blame greedy companies who lobby politicians with election donations, who then pay back those greedy companies by signing up free trade deals and other favours.
  16. Thanks TL. I've been told this shaft, prop and all the crap that goes with an inboard engine can add up to mouthwatering sum. I won't be putting it on a $1 reserve unless I am still trying to sell this gear a year from now. No rush to sell. Was just really looking for a guide price to give me a ballpark idea, but of course understand the old story something is only worth what someone is prepared to pay.
  17. From a 26 foot long keel yacht. I will attach some pics. One sec....
  18. Fellas, I am having my inboard engine pulled out next week. I intend to sell the engine, gearbox and electrical panel as one package. And I have a price in mind. But how much is all the other stuff worth - such as prop-shaft, stuffing box, fixed three blade prop etc? I'm getting all that stuff taken out too, and will sell off in another package, but haven't really got an idea what it is worth. The engine and the stuff that goes with it is from year 2010.
  19. Ah no, because as my post previous to yours says, I sold it and all other rigging in January. However, I do have a near new 14 hp Beta diesel engine that I want to sell - perfect inboard for a H28. Details and pics here http://crew.org.nz/forum/index.php/topic/13178-diesel-engine-for-sale-14hp-beta-year-2010/
  20. I can report that the UK dealer will sell me the manual 9.9 HT with tiller and ship it direct to me - as long as I pay the freight of course.
  21. My boat is a full keel, with barn door rudder off the transom. so yes, hopefully the outboard tiller will help with close quarters manoeuvring in marinas and the like
  22. And to prove you are 100% correct VP, here is 9.9, hi-thrust, manual start with tiller http://www.bhg-marine.co.uk/yamaha-ft99lmhx-99hp-high-thrust-extra-long-shaft-outboard-446-p.asp but, in the UK NZ always seems to have less choice of everything huh.
  23. Ah, interesting. The Yam dealer said not only can they not get a manual start off the shelf here in NZ (which I would prefer) but they would have to get the parts in to make it a tiller control rather than remote. The non-hi thrust in 9.9 with standard gear reduction has both manual and tiller, but the only option in NZ for hi-thrust model is electric start and remote if you buy off the shelf. So, maybe this is the way to go, get a special order done and get the hi-thrust with manual start & tiller and save all the effing around with batteries and parts for a tiller conversion. Thanks
