  1. Most likely a depth transducer. They can be mounted on the inside of the hull and still work reasonably successfully. But I've never seen one with the 6 screw mounting - that would be more likley in an ultrasound tank depth sensor. Presumbaly you can unsrcrew it and have a look at it?
  2. You need to get it from their automotive and industrial warehouse out in Mt Wellington.
  3. Sorted the messages out. I haven't seen the stuff, only a sample, so I can't really give a price. It'll be under $10 per m2. If you're interested I'll put you in touch. She's in St Lukes area.
  4. A friend of mine found that her house was insulated with marine engine room insulation (foam rubber with foil one side and sticky back the other). She's replaced this with something more suitable and so now has approximately 80m2 of insulation to sell on. The sticky back hasn't been peeled and seems in decent condition. It has been between joists so is in smallish sections that would need to be butted together and taped. Make an offer for whatever amount you need. Logan
  5. Thanks for the tip off on where to find the coconut stuff. You can also use peat. Eg: Hauraki gold.

I also seem to recall that people had trouble refilling alloy bottles in Noumea? (after the last Noumea race)

Aluminium bottles are a total ripoff (IMHO) and the weight difference is pretty marginal. Galv steel bottles would be best, but don't seem to be available in NZ - readily available in australia. Suggestions last year were to buy a painted bottle and get it galved, and then tested.
  8. Get realistic. Add up the cost of that bucket list of desirable replacements and you're over 100k. If you expect a current owner to invest that and then give it away to you for 45k you might as well be one of those turkeys advertising for a free boat. Take something like the Stewart 34. There are examples that sell for 40-60k. But there are examples that have had the full upgrade/rebuild and are like new boats - and accordingly they will probably cost like new boats. Perhaps for some boats "for sale" is something the owner tells the wife?
  9. Sailing a 1020 - in most conditions we see the no2 non-overlapping genoais fast or faster than the no1 overlapper upwind unless you've got big crew on the rail. Also much easier through tacks and manouvering for start. Also sets more easily in very light air unless the No1 is very light weight. It loses out off the wind without the kite - where the boat pushes past its natural hull speed, and when you've got some moving ballast and extra hands upwind. I don't even carry a no1 on board when cruising. Just leave the No2 hanked on the whole time. (Except coming back from Mahurangi on Anni
