  1. Never call another person's baby ugly.
  2. And price for most of us.
  3. One hell of a guarantee: your personal miniature-size distress beacon guarantees fast and efficient rescue from distress at sea and your own and your crew's protection.
  4. It's cold down there. But I have got rid of the rowboat, now I need to figure out what to do with the proa.
  5. Haha - WHo goes back and reads these?? It's still in the box in the basement. And still on the list of things to do. )I really need to quit work!)
  6. And wondering about NZ women??????
  7. Funny you should say that KM _ I was just looking at this:
  8. I was clearing stuff out of the house today and found a disc with this on it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lht2CRYzpcY&feature=youtu.be
  9. Well, I just went to trade me to list it. I had someone offer me a bottle of Mount Gay , so we agreed I'd put it on trade me with a $50 reserve and if it didn't sell in a week he could have it. But it appears Trade me have upped their prices by a huge amount ($39 now to list it then a % on the sale). Makes the whole exercise a bit pointless. Wondering what to do next???

  11. I read a book last year where some guy started trading something pathetic like a pen and ended up a year later with a house in Hawaii.
  12. Never used one, but if you like that kind of thing I can't recommend David Lewis' We, the Navigators highly enough.
  13. New Zealand Coastguard Federation (1976-1990) The New Zealand Coastguard Federation was established in 1976, when a group of local sea rescue organisations formed a national body to give them a voice at a national level and assist with the ever present funding issues. The organisation grew to include 63 affiliated units, including Coastguard Air Patrols, stationed around New Zealand. In 1990 Royal Patronage was granted to the New Zealand Coastguard Federation and Prince Charles willingly accepted the role of Patron. Did my first offshore passage in 1975, disappeared semi permanen
  14. Guilty as charged. I have to think about it. When I started sailing there was no Coast Guard, and people hardly ever needed help. Then I went away. When I came back there was this thing called Coast Guard. I guess I don't see it as indispensable, but if that's what they want to do go for it. But as someone else commented, stick to the knitting. I don't see CG as a group that should be having input into policy. If I ever needed a tow I would probably call them and pay the fee without complaint. But at 52 years without a claim I'm way ahead by self insuring. Just no strong feelings
  15. I see govt funding mentioned a couple of times. I would be against that. I really don't want the govt involved with CG.
  16. Ok - Mr Firewatch North shore said the little powder ones are cheap to replace (keep the old ones the same way you would old flares) but I probably should have more capacity, and bring in the big CO2 and they should be able to service it cost effectively . Seemed to know what he was talking about.
