  1. LOL. I always thought the people who read the weather on the radio could be a bit more sympathetic. Instead of "Gales in the Colville Channel, seas rough", how about - "oh you poor buggers!".
  2. Slow it down by putting it in the beer fridge - you have one of those right?
  3. Very Sad. One of the best sailors in the country http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11585896
  4. Get me drunk enough and I'll tell you how I got sacked.
  5. Long time ago but I think about 100 gallons of liquid sugar. this was the stuff in the plastic bottle that you squeeze over the ice cream - passion fruit was my favourite.
  6. Back in my student days I had a job making ice cream topping by the hundreds of gallons for Tip Top. Managed to stuff up an entire vat and kill half a day's production coz I couldn't remember if I had already added some vital ingredient.
  7. Thanks IT, I was on the verge yesterday but didn't have the number.
  8. I am on the first mooring west of the wharf. Every time I go to the boat I find a collection of fishing hardware on my foredeck. Haven't had to buy any since I moved. I'm also worried about the people I see taking undersized fish from the river.
  9. How many do you need for cat 1? about 30? This might keep idiots from anchoring too close as well.
  10. Might be of interest to some, I always liked the G32 , and Russ Brown ids a proa enthusiast - what's not to like? http://gougeon32.blogspot.co.nz/search?updated-min=2015-01-01T00:00:00-08:00&updated-max=2016-01-01T00:00:00-08:00&max-results=1
  11. Hi B ill, yes plastic clears and shade cloth for the tropics - oh yeah. Ballystick - if you could find out the dimensions?
  12. Thanks John, multi chine seems somehow appropriate. Is that one skin of 6mm and glass?
  13. Id never heard of this http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/15835017
  14. I saw a Swan 72 dump all its chain and hit full reverse to avoid a ship that had broken down and was drifting on to him. He figured if he backed into the mangroves the ship would go aground before hitting him, and it was all happening so fast he wouldn't have time to get the anchor up. Papeete around the early 80's.
  15. I have an 8 man in hard box, out of service, would need it back before August. Let me know if it is of interest.
  16. Are looking to buy, rent or steal?
  17. yes, it was put on in May, by Oct was looking bloody awful, then we moved to Weiti Xmas and everything fell off.
  18. Update - two weeks in the Weiti River and she's almost spotless!!!!!!! Is it the brackish water killing the salty growth, or the current ripping everything off? Who knows? Still investigating copper coat. Just worried how much prep will be needed.
  19. Dare I confess, it is still there.
  20. Which reminds me. I must do some thing about my toothbrush
  21. On the old boat I was working on something and had the headliner down. One of the kids dropped a couple of marbles between the deck and liner unnoticed. When sailing would get a funny rattle every time we tacked or gybed, drove me nuts for nearly two years.
  22. I saw more than one boat over Xmas with a small riding sail off the backstay
  23. Would he mind a curious visitor?
  24. I have a 1 page site workings cheat sheet the ye olde shops captain who taught me gave me way back in the day. I'll dig a copy out. I'd like to see that. A good friend used it to get a well known Kiwi race boat out of the poo a few years back.
  25. WHY DO WE DO IT????????? BK - go for the sextant, it's a goodie.
