  1. Has anyone converted a soft bimini to a hard one (then added solar panels)? I'd love to have a closer look at one. Here's the one we are considering changing
  2. As above - we watch movies. (Same as at home)
  3. Nothing to do with sport but I never knew about this one either https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surafend_affair
  4. Some interesting perspective from Reddit: Our beloved All Blacks were responsible for 28 countries boycotting the 1976 Olympics. What other shameful NZ history gets covered up? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1976_Summer_Olympics#Non-participating_National_Olympic_Committees
  5. In which case definitely have another try first. Small steps though, a nice day and a shortish trip.
  6. We are discussing ways to make it a hard bimini then put solar panels up there.
  7. Ok, so in among all the techno speak. If you have AIS, and if the crew is wearing something, that something will tell you if the crew fell overboard and where the crew is relative to the boat. Sounds a huge improvement on a PLB (which I always considered useful for finding a body at best).
  8. Yep, sounds like, mind you kids throw up all the time for various reasons. I would try again before putting drugs in her system.
  9. What exactly can AIS do for a man overboard? (This is a real question)
  10. Yep, I have a full chart plotter on the phone and it works with zero reception
  11. The phone has a built in GPS. What I like with this is it will call you if you are away from the boat and tell you if you have dragged. I have downloaded it, need to go somewhere now to test it.
  12. A friend was just telling me he has an app on his phone that makes it call another number (his wife's phone) if the GPS notes he moves more than x metres. Uses it when he goes ashore, if he drags the boat calls him and tells him. Sounds like a good trick, anyone else know about it?
  13. Are you sure it was seasickness? Babies are normally not susceptible, something to do with the inner ear not being fully developed.
  14. Not yet, only just got back, strangely enough it's looking a lot better now than it was before Xmas. But I will call him before the next paint job and see what he can tell me. The pile moorings all belong to WBC (except the one I am on). If the wind is good you can anchor at Arkles and walk to the supermarket, movie theatre and 10 pin bowling, Stop by the house and have a shower and do your laundry if you want.
  15. There was a sign on Whgp Rd that said "Do not remove any signs". My favourite.
  16. I've just moved from Opua to the Weiti River, I will be watching carefully, ask me in about 6 months.
  17. We were sent a survey by REINZ today about workplace safety so they could comply with some new legislation (to be honest I haven't read it all - too boring). But I was tempted to tell them about this really bad paper cut I got once.
  18. I wonder if it is related to this http://www.tadroberts.ca/services/small-boats/sail/harry226 I liked it. Someone on here once said that speed and comfort are inversely related , i.e. if you are comfortable enough speed becomes unimportant. So I thought a) the guy sitting his wheelhouse sipping a hot coffee in 28 kn looked pretty comfortable while no greyhound it was getting along just fine.
  19. True, also means a whole bunch of jobs can now get done.
  20. Saw this one coming out of Bon Accord a few days ago, anyone know any more about it?
  21. This morning I paddled to the dock and walked home!!!!!!!
  22. You mean your boat can't do a handstand?
