Hah just perusing her vitals refrigeration for 300lbs of meat fuel 500 gallons fresh water 500 gallons 16hp Lister swinging a 24x24 prop with a auxiliary Lister 8hp driving another prop or a 4kva generator both engines ran through a 20 gallon fresh water tank before exiting to a keel cooler for hot water shower. Waihape was no ordinary yacht designed and built by no ordinary character.

The best option was Blanket Bay down the end of Thompson Sound and at confluence of Doubtful and Bradshaw Sounds. It looked protected from these winds by the 1200 meter Mt Grono and had a series of little coves with established stern lines for mooring to. Many many moons ago used to be a hardware store on Broadway New Market that had ladders on rails to reach the stock if it wasn’t so long ago and my memory corroded by the passage of time I would tell you the name. As a young chippie used to shop here for hardware and supplies. -
