    Toilet hose

Have used clear vinyl hose. It will smell, so I need to wrap something impervious around it or paint it. Or wrap with cloth and resin.Sure there will be something I can use. Bought the proper sanitation hose but you cant bend it and if change of plan you cant get it off. Bloody useless. Solutions please
  3. Thinking nightime, tired and cold, run out of fuel, autohelm flattens house battery. With only 13 HP I think v. limited by a small alternator.
  4. The Navman uses max 600mA and you want it to run for say 20hrs -how big a battery needed?(be nice if the main battery was flat)
  5. in chch. Is there not some law that says the channell is only for the Nowcast and not for others. Cant quite make out who it is.

    Oh ROT!

Is that Noel B.? Best boatbuilder.

    Oh ROT!

Say you just put a screw into timber, do you need to use a sealant with it? Imaginary example- put a cup hook outside somewhere (to hang your cup) : would you smear something on the thread ? Am using the Bostick Simson nowadays.
  8. My 2 bobs worth- like thee volvo sea instead of the pricey non drip( google yachting boating world forum) Also how on earth can you load up 4 engine mounts equally? Three yes, but 4 is just guesswork for the last one. Adjust number 3 good but it takes all the weight and leaves nothing for number 4 to take.

    Toaster ss mesh

Well that toast has just had carbon monoxide plus countless other gases blasted at it. I wouldm't think you would want to eat that-pretty toxic.

    Toaster ss mesh

Yeah well still waiting for someone to suggest a mesh that will last longer. A heavier mesh I suppose.
  11. Am using mesh from household sieves and they last say 3mth before burning out. Anyone know of a longer lasting mesh?
  12. Used to be an Orion flew right around the NZ coastline every 24hrs. Or was that an urban myth?
  13. Did someone say burners cheap as chips in Fiji? About $200 here I think.

    Awatere

In the Wahine tragedy. If you knew the beam exceeded the waterdepth, would it have been an option to remain aboard? Like she didnt sink

    Gearing size

Just see the wee twin does 2100rpm in gear and 2850 unload. What does this mean? 3 blade 12×17 (size was my guess)
  16. H9w do these work? Since the distance out of the magnet doesnt matter at all.(managed to bust original magnet and using an oddball replacement- wouldnt matter ?) Thanks

    Iron on patch

Is this technical? Dont have an iron. So how can you do it without? Favourite shirt.(do wear it on the boat so it is boaty subject)
  18. IT -interesting, haven't heard that method before. So you mark 2m above and then tighten. Would that mark then not measure less, as you are then stretching the wire down.?

    Furler fail...

So much for the inert monel rivets. Saw another reefrite with corroded rivets like this (unless they had been swapped for alu, but doubt that)

    Furler fail...

Wheels, is that an ordinary rivet idea (need to get the length right) or would you be going for the rivet not going allthe way clear thru, and just to bind in the drilled hole. Drill too hard and you hit the forestay. A convential rivet head(well not the head but the other end) would get worn away by the forestay?

    Furler fail...

You should be able to stand back and view whats happening up top. You need to see 3-4" (min) foil/track above the top of the sail and under thetop bearing. There may be a foot or two of track above-all good. If there is no clearance then yes, as you load the halyard it will be trying to pull the foils apart.

    Lifeboats

Was my understanding that there is really no law that says you cant service your own liferaft.

    Lifeboats

How seaworthy are todays lifeboats? They all seem to be ribs. And wont be as good as the old type that could take a capsize intheir stride. Mind you the Darling girl did the most iconic rescue ever in an open rowboat

    MOB

Tragic news. Hope he had a survival suit on. The loads on the tether must be so much greater when you are tearing along at 25kn in comparison to my 5kn. And Skallywag has given up on him and heading for land. Whats that about.

    Tidy rope coil

Coiled old 3strand rope around a 12" drum and it came out coiled (remove drum) the same as brand new rope from the shop. Very tidy. Put 3 lashings around it and held its shape.
