Oh. You're back in Der Schweiz.. I thought you had come back to NZ?? You going to keep the boat in the lake or on the coast somewhere?

Wow Dr. W. That is brilliant. Well done! The factory do seem to be great to deal with.. Congratulations!
  3. Can't watch the vids offshore dammit! Good effort Phil.
  4. I wasn't having a dig at you Josh. Your coverage is always great and you guys were spectacular in the race. I just felt they could have done a little research on the RNI. All they would need are crew contact details from Jon, give them a call and ask for 200 words on their most memorable part of the race. Or even a phone call. The Gisborne reception was a story all by itself from what I heard!! Joe Yachtie likes to read this stuff. This race is about ordinary Kiwis pushing themselves fairly hard, and I for one, love to hear other people's stories!

  6. I haven't seen the mag, but I have to agree with Phil looking at the article, (and that hasn't happened much recently! ). While Josh and Damon sailed amazingly well, and have sorted that boat to the max, there were other awesome stories to be had, as Phil points out. Squealer in particular have a torrid tale to tell in Cook Strait, with a close encounter with the Brothers. Blink coming out of Wellington, scaring the hell out of us all as we thought they were going out the Wahine way via Barret's reef! with a badly wrapped kite on a very powerful boat. I had no idea Vesna had a broken col
  7. Hi Dtwo. So no ground to Seawater then, just a ground wire to the marina?
  8. Yes, as far as I am aware, they are not being treated as illegals. I asked the same question. They didn't even want any food from us, just seasickness pills and a sea anchor. I thought the crew were a bit mean not throwing in a few packets of Tim Tams.. Better than rotten fish!

Hey Fish. It's a great thread and worth the read. In short he loves it. He is very honest in his appraisal of the boat and its advantages and shortcomings, with lots of photos and videos. As to be expected, he is struggling to get it going in the light, but in a blow it seems wicked. He has also tested the keel ram blow off valve by hitting a whale off QLD in a recent race. The ram just moved back 6" due to the blow off valve and he pumped it down again. Seems to have some great performance numbers! he is also very appreciative of the help he got from the factory which seem to be really he

Have a read of this thread on SA Dr. W. Very long, but he goes into huge detail on his experiences of getting a Pogo 1250 built and shipped to Aus. I found it very interesting! http://forums.sailinganarchy.com/index.php?showtopic=165516&page=8&hl=pogo&do=findComment&comment=5278178

    Takeing on water.

It's doable, but you would want to have all your packing pre-cut and ready to go, plus the little hooks you need to get the old stuff out. There will be a fair bit of water depending on how worn the bearing is! You get an idea when you remove the grease cup to re-pack it. the grease cup goes on the seaward side of the packing.. You could maybe just replace the outer 2 packings, and leave the inner one for when the boat is next out of the water. This would surely stop most leaks?
  12. 1. Not sure how your fault loop impedance theory works. It would be so little difference that it would make no odds, and has nothing to do with having a sea bonding plate! The earth lead bonded to your boat exposed metal is enough. 2. Your exposed metal explanation makes no sense. If your exposed metal is at Phase potential with regard to earth and you grab it, you get a shock as the current path is looking to go to Earth due to our MEN system. If the exposed metal is at neutral potential, you will only get a shock if you are holding a phase wire. If the metal is bonded it is at neutral poten
  13. Agreed. Apparently there is another one now as well. Same story. Got blown South. We have a few Indos on board and they phoned their families for them to let them know they were OK. Sail only with a rig like that.. Tough buggers.
  14. I still cannot understand the point of an external Earth when you are running RCDs. Maybe someone can explain the advantage??
  15. Out off the NW shelf of Aussie working at the moment (to pay marina fees) on a 120 metre Dive support boat, and we got called out to a Mayday. We have been standing by this Indo Fishing boat for most of the day waiting for the Border patrol to escort them back to Timor. Apparently they were anchored by an island off West Timor when a Cat 3 Cyclone came through. We ran South, and hid in a sheltered bay out of the path, but these guys got hammered, broke away from their anchor and got blown out to sea. They have been drifting around for 3-4 days with a split mast. They are engineless as well. T
  16. Awesome summary Dr. W. I think you have covered pretty much everything. I think the average boat owner age in the seventies (Keel boat, 25-45ft) would have been around 40. Much older today I would think for all the reasons you laid out.
  17. OMG. I agree with motorbike. The sky is falling!! Spot on mate.
  18. First time in a while Mr. Orams has been that far back. All this WAZP sailing has ruined him!
  19. Insured with Mariner. Never an issue. Had a big payment for a mast that crumpled a few years back. Prompt payment and no argument.
  20. Thankfully, MB, you are in the minority on the North Shore. Even Jim Young supports the Camp Ground. YNZ should have stuck with the original plan and built above the beach. Everyone would have been happy. With luck, even the monstrosity of a playground may not have been built.
  21. Nice to know the inspectors are treating the issue with common sense, something the Marinas are not! Like IT says, this does not meet the standard, but sounds good to me!!
  22. Are Gulf Harbour slowly going out of their minds? "Service industry" is an oxymoron when you apply it to them...
