  1. Joseph Parker, like all boxers, is brain damaged. Why should my taxes pay for their medical care. http://kmccready.wordpress.com/2014/02/25/boxing-and-nz-health-authorities/
  2. I'm struggling to see how Hate Speech is adding to this discussion. Here's some thoughts on justice as a counterbalance. http://thewireless.co.nz/articles/is-justice-a-cherry-picked-privilege
  3. Coastguard has just advertised for radio operators who must work 12 hour shifts!!!! That's what I call safety. NOT. I'm a member but it seems members don't have voting rights. I'll probably cancel my membership and "self-insure".
  4. Full marks to journo Haylee King - Bay of Plenty Times, half marks to journo Ingrid Jellick
  5. More alternative media: . crikey.com.au led the online push in Australia/NZ . http://publicaddress.net/ . The Young Turks - biggest online news service in the world . privately curated twitter feeds the list goes on. I am proud to say I have not bought a newspaper since about 1995 when things like this began to start up on the internet.
  6. "Journalists" these days are often not worthy of the name. The problem is they get trained in postmodernist philosophy (the notion that there is no truth). Some journalists, like Paddy Gower for example, openly say they don't have time to find the truth and are happy to be entertainers pretending to be unbiased by being hard on "both sides". The other problem for the mainstream media is people are not prepared to pay for their crappy product and so "journalists" actually don't have the time to do journalism any more and we get infotainment. It's interesting to note the success of the alternati
  7. I'd be happy to donate to help him get some safety gear. Good on him. Hope the authorities don't try to force Cat 1 on him.
  8. Wherever you get it done, I'd get a detailed written quote first - saves problems later. You might like to try General Marine Services GMS 196 Pakenham Street West, Westhaven 309 6317 Andy Marshall 368 0938 0217 390 04 andy@generalmarine.co.nz
  9. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11714895 Disgusted. Does anyone know these clowns?
  10. Whoa there. Settle down. His friends were worried about him and did the right thing. The rescue people also did the right thing. Lesson learned. Seems the only people doing the wrong thing are the media who got it wrong.
  11. I still count myself as a novice sailor but I've been alone once in 45 knot winds and a quite a few times as crew. I know I'd much rather be using a custom made stormsail than a deeply reefed anything.
  12. You're one up on me. I don't see a "choose' I see browse and it works OK after that.
  13. I click on "More Reply Options" at the bottom of the box and go from there.
  14. Try forcing your tablet to deal with the website proper, not the mobile version of the website which has limitations which flummoxed me too.
  15. Most Acts give Minister power to make Regulations which once tabled in Parliament without objection have the force of law.
  16. I've been watching you guys carry on with this for a while. Anyone got a link to the biologist's vid? Seems to me that the law is the law and there's a good reason for it. If every Tom Dick and Harriet decides to go on their own little adventure the animals will get no rest. Having seen the pilot whale vid ...
  17. Thanks Freeeeedommmmm What HM? I've notified Auckland HM about abandoned moorings covered in mussels floating just below the waterline - a definite hazard! AFAIK they are still there a year later. In Okauhu Bay and Hobson Bay I estimate 10 boats a year wash up on the shoreline. The time and effort cleaning that up is probably more than telling owners that they have to secure their boats properly to the mooring and doing the odd inspection. It's a bit dumb having mooring rules and no rules about cleats etc attaching your pile of $%$ to the mooring.
  18. I disagree Grant. Idiots who let their boats plough through a mooring put my boat at risk, not to mention my rates that go for cleanup and oil spills. I really don't care if idiots don't like being told what to do. That's what laws are for. No offence and I'm not calling you or anyone here an idiot.
  19. He's right about one thing. The Harbour Master should be boarding yachts to see if they are attached safely to the mooring. 3 out of 4 boats I see washed up have had mooring cleats ripped from the deck.
  20. What a bloody waste of time GST is. Why oh why did we ever let this regressive stupid tax become part of the system? Oh I know - rogernomics.
  21. ta eric and jon. google didn't present me with wikipedia - only a bunch of spam sites.
  22. Does this mean no more swimming off the back of my boat? Serious question.
  23. 8 negative feedbacks on trademe out of about 500 is pretty bad. I would not go anywhere near this guy.
  24. philstar, this website is a public record, I don't think your comment is appropriate. I tried to make my comments useful and respectful and I really feel for the family and friends of the missing boy. I don't blame the boy for his lack of knowledge of proper safety.
  25. A life jacket (WITH A CRUTCH STRAP) might have given him the buoyancy and strength to swim to shore with his mate. It might have also allowed rescuers to pick him up before hypothermia became irreversible. That said, when we tested my "life jacket" it didn't prevent an "unconscious" person floating face down. We seriously need to rethink "life jackets". http://kmccready.wordpress.com/2014/01/15/lifejackets-lifejackets-and-sissies/
