in this case it was first a general under the I flag (round the ends as it was for every start), thengeneral recall under the U flag (same as blag flag but no subsequent DSQ if its a general), then general recall under Black flag with around 8-9 boats pulled out for the next race then another 2-3 (including us) pulled out of that race. in that case us and at least one other got pulled out for being over 30 seconds from the start, not for being over at the actual start. It was all fun and games.....

Cearly not you AA. what an arogant thing to say..... It was a great weekend on the water. I was on the waka huia, we were in 2nd spot after day one but slipped to 3rd over all having to carry 22 xtra points for a black flag start DSQ. Tough sailing in 4-6 kts of NE breeze for the whole weekend and a very high level of competition with 21 boats racing. Mike sanderson won it in flash gordon, then dangerzone (ex triple then us. By far the best sailing I have done in a while.
  5. Yes I spent a few months out there on a boat a while back. There was a thread on it but I couldn't find it to link. Waitangi and port hutt are your best bet as far as anchorages go.
  6. As far as I know there is no one paid to race in NZ either. If there is its only a very select few. Full time boat workers aside.

Its final stop is Sydney but I believe Cooksons are doing a major on it first. Its going to be based in Australia.
  8. I know what’s all that about. I’m guessing one of the ones with a fractional kite will have no issues with the handicapping as they won almost every race on handicap. I can only assume that the one Ross, that was handicapped lower than the two with fractional kites has spent years manipulating his handicap for this one event. Performance based handicaps make ZERO difference what size sails you have. Its performance based not measurement based. In other words a handicap not a rating.
  9. Some comments from another Forum about the 395 was this one of the issues that the farr 395's have had..., No, I have never seen a 395 with this problem, Im pretty sure the hull materials are different. That said they did have there own problems. Do you care to elaborate? Some had bonding issues with the grid. They replaced some grids in some of them as well. The 395 issue (for most of them) is that the lay=up schedule was a little misguided and the step from solid (around the keel) to cored hull was not feathered properly leading to small stress cracks. Since it is a

  11. Smithy, I do agree with you in part but I think comparing cruising production boats with locally built race boats isn't a fair comparison. You should be comparing your Dufour to a Chico 30 if you want a true strength comparison, not a Y88 or Ross 930 which were very radical and light boats when they came out. Race boats are built as light as possible with as much weight as possible on the keel, cruising production boats have very heavy hulls and light (often just solid cast iron with no lead) keels. All that extra lining on the inside may look pretty but it comes at huge performance costs

So to finish the original story about my alternator, I just picked it up from ‘Auto Electrical Spares’ in Henderson. Final bill was $150 and the thing looks like brand new. Fully grit blasted, all new components and seriously it looks like a brand new unit. when they gave it to me I gave it straight back and told then that was not mine, they promised me that it actually was. I was very impressed, they knew exactly what all the options were and recommended the best thing to do, rang me when they said they would and had in ready in just a day for less than what they quoted. Highly recommend th

My gear is not flash and yes I think it could damage hearing. That's running 2 x amped 12' subs (with low pass filter), 2 x amped 6x9s (with high pass filter), and a 4 x 6.5' speakers. Its just old car stuff, not flash at all and probably power hungry but I really only run it for a party. It goes just fine.

The big stereo will draw an average of around 18-20amps peaking in the late 20s depending on the baseline! So that's about most peoples daily usage in 1 hr.....

Also- I checked the power off the terminals at the back with a multimeter and there was nothing, it was reading 12.8v (battery voltage) when the key was off but as soon as the ignition was on the voltage dropped to 11.2v.

Thanks Wheels. They said it was the regulator pack that was buggered. I would like a bigger alternator one day but its not on my priority list right now. 40A would do me just fine. Its only when i rank up the big sounds that I need the extra juice but I have 2 x 130AH house batterys + the starter so got enough power for a good party!

I just got a call from auto electrical spares in henderson who I dropped the broken alternator to earlier. My one has an unusual mounting system, pretty old school i think so its harder to find a replacement. Im getting my current one fully restored for $168. If i had more time I would look into other alternatives but I need to be back out on the water friday

So is there really no difference between a marine one and a car one? (other than the price) I though that as im running a slow reeving engine it needs to be slightly different than a car one as they rev much higher. Is this true? Also if I upgrade from 28amps to 40 or 80 (or bigger) will I need to replace wires and regulators or is it OK. I know that I have a voltage sensitive relay but dont know about the regulator other than whats on the back of the alternator. Dont want to fry batterys or cables.

My 28amp Bosch alternator just packed up. A new one is $300. Anyone know a good source of second hand or reconditioned alternators that might be cheaper? Even better does someone have one sitting around at home! Its off a Yanmar 2GM20.
  22. I know this forum isn't about crusaders cat 3 cert or the coastal but someone needs to think about this .... Boat doesn't meet cat 3 for this race, so how does it meet cat 3 for a race 4 months ago, yet the boat was awarded a record on a race that is cat 3 ??? Doesn't sound right For fu*ks sake. what a load of dribble...... Talk about jumping to conclusions and speculation! How do you know for sure that the keel was the reason they didn't get cat 3 or that the lack of cat 3 is even the reason they are not there? How do you know that it's not a whole different keel mechanism tha
  23. I really was thinking about doing something like that. Rafin, Thanks for the offer of the Kite and Pole, its pretty low on the list but if I get that far I will let you know! Probably wont need it if I do a 2 piece rig.
  24. I brought a Sunburst hull and foils in the weekend and am looking for an old rig (and maybe old sails) to get me going. Its a project for me and the boys to mess around in, not race so doesn't need to be flash. Any bits considered. 0212222143 josh@nz.northsails.com
