harrytom 642
A couple of us have often wondered about the trans atlantic,I use to own an old spencer box 30,sabre,we could hold our own running reaching and seeing how the t/a is down wind,we often thought new foil designs and you might have a winner
raz88 96
A bit sad after seeing 9 something metre boast doing a Transat when NZ is actively going the opposite route. Yeah that was one of my thoughts as I was reading it. I guess the only argument for NZ to behave differently is it's harder here to get tradewind type sailing that they're aiming for with that race. Leaving here for oz/the islands l on a fixed date for a race, who knows what conditions you'll get...
Battleship 100
15 years old isn't old.

vic008 17
Of course Spencer put a new keel and rudder on his and she did very well
Battleship 100
Of course Spencer put a new keel and rudder on his and she did very well Unless you were an engineer boat tinkerer, the cost of a new keel and rudder certified for offshore would quickly be close to the cost of a more modern boat. raz88 96
15 years old isn't old. Not saying it is. In fact I don't consider my boat particularly old and it's closing in on double that.
Black Panther 1,586
I think Dambo holds the max speed on our plywood box at 17 point bit.
Myjane 40
It all depends where you are on the water , boat helps but position on water is it , Spencer boats are fast especially down wind I sailed sailent reciently and man crack sheets and hang on they fly ,
El Toro 97
I watched Trubi the other day go out and win a rum race single handed, against at least a dozen boats, including a couple of sharp ones. Go that man!
Clipper 343
Not that it was really a fair fight, but the fastest elapsed time in last years night race to kawau was a solo GBE (me). Beat a couple of fully crewed 52s.
ScottiE 174
definitely not fair - neither of your wooden boxes were ply!
Clipper 343
definitely not fair - neither of your wooden boxes were ply! Actually, both are/were
ScottiE 174
oh - (why did I think they were strip planked).
Clipper 343
oh - (why did I think they were strip planked). Some are. Voom is built from 2 layers of 100mm wide strips of ply I think. Double diagonally planked.
