A sad day for the crew of her over the years , scary how quick she went down at least the crew are ok , I guess the only thing to do is a wake at the Northcote Tavern?

Anyway there is another ply rum racer almost complete at Milford to take her place soon on the start lines.

An interesting detail that certainly contributed to likelihood of a collision occurring on the startline such as the one that sunk Elliphunk is major line bias. I realise that rum races are meant

these landed on my phone over night.

Damn good work by crew to drop and lash main down in under a minute.

Horrible situation for all concerned,  first fresh-ish night for the rum racers in a while so people were not particularly match fit relatively speaking. What I heard was that it was in the last minute and  EF was on stb and a boat on port didnt see them and it was a full on t-bone. E sunk in less than a minute, 4 POB picked up very soon after.   Could have been a lot worse with a dozen yachts converging and crews focused on the start. Boats can be replaced, people cant be.

Any updates? Glad to hear Everyone ok. Pic I saw looks like she’ll be quite the hazard in the start box. Any word on hauling her out before the current takes her? I expect that to sink in a few seconds like that, the damage must be considerable - and would take someone very dedicated to the cause to take it on.

Seem to remember that when Gypsy went down, took a bit to find her after a few tides.
