erice 732
remember last month a news story of a woman that bought an old yacht for her sailor husband and when they broke up she sold it on tm with a $1 reserve? Owner pleased after historic yacht with $1 reserve sells for $480,000 http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/money/88457706/owner-pleased-after-historic-yacht-with-1-reserve-sells-for-480000 looks like the 2 previous sales few through http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/boats-marine/yachts/keeler/auction-1261578061.htm http://www.centralyachts.com/listings/sail/ruahs.html
Romany 162
yeah if u read trade me the 'winning' bidder on prev auction failed to front with the cash. Beautiful vessel for sure but a limited market, and (I think I have read somewhere) it was a training vessel for Ozzie Navy once in years gone by I'd think it may take a substantial crew to operate it. I think she says in current auction $65k per annum maintenance cost. Brightwork like that needs serious attention I'd think
Kevin McCready 83
I'm presuming it has or can get Cat 1. There's a market for people wanting to get between Oz and NZ and not fly. Assuming, for the sake of the exercise, people would be willing to pay $1000-2000 per passage, has anyone done a feasibility study?
Deep Purple 512
Purchasing it would be the cheapest part
ex Elly 197
Is that Stuff story wrong? Cause Trade Me ad says the auction closes Sun 19 Feb, and the current bid is $170K...

It would need to be in Survey and the Skipper would need to have a ticket for that kind of Voyage as well. I am surprised it is only at $170K. The last time it shot to $400K in a flash. I think that if I were the Owner, I would have contacted the others that had lost out and re offered to them first.
Deep Purple 512
And how do we know it wasn't a shill bid from a friend to get it up to what she wanted. There's no way in hell you're going to sell an old wooden $500~ whatever boat on trade-me in a few weeks without a survey. This auction like the others she's run and the story have bullshit written all over them.

Vorpal Blade 89
Time will tell. IT or BP will probably know them, after all how many Dougs with an interest in boating could possibly live on the Hibiscus Coast
