Final Squadron Winter series race

Fullfoil, you're the Dog!!

So you have never had a breakage in a race, or a crook crew, or some other event that needed you to pull out of a race.

If not, maybe you haven't got the guts to either push it, or you wouldn't go out in those conditions

Were you on your own boat or cowering on someone elses?

You're a disgrace!!!!!

That was a great ride down the harbour. Haven't had one of those for a very long time. You couldn't have asked for a better wind direction/strength for the finale. Passed a lot of boats going down only to watch them all pass us again coming back!

The warp was ours on Tiri, which we had borrowed from S2.

It hadn't seen much action until yesterday.

Can't comment on the bridle as it belonged to 888.

During the tow we managed to chug along at 8 knots so was quite pleased with that.

Sounds like a fun day out.....

Wish I could have made it along.....I was busy carving it up on fresh powder at Turoa..... Epic day had by all by the sounds!

would be keen to get that photo of the force eleven that was on the projector.

awesome ride. collapsed the genny once and the shock loading pulled the tack line out a foot and the halyard out a foot and the running backstay slipped with 4 wraps on the winch, through the self tailer and a safety on it.....wet, fast and fun. were seeing consistant 17s untill about northern leader when 12-14 felt slow. any div1 caravans get any piccies as we flew past? heard plenty of cheers.

certainly was a few masthead/fractional flags flying.

keen for another skid like that soon!!!

well done to pretty woman for going kite in the big puff right on the start. we played wuss for a bit.

unfortunate about the long beat back though.

We had an awesum ride down to Issy bay on the karma once we got the frac genny up at devonport it was all on for young and old just sat on constant 22-23kts the whole way down to rangi before we had to drop and 2 sail to the mark which seemed real slow.

good way to end the winter series

Karma looked awesome coming towards us on Putiki. Pity I didn't have a camera handy.

Cos we damaged the pole just before the start, couldn't run the kite, so was interesting watching the mayhem behind us.

Triple 888 isn't too quick under power, is she? A bit hard to say otherwise when we go past upwind on the sled.

We were down on crew numbers, so ran the reacher and no.3 (which also meant little chance of repeating our efforts last race). The speedo was on the fun side of 20 knots, but it reads low as when the bow lifts it starts coming out of the water. It would've been interesting to see what we would've hit with the fractional up, but with the current keel we're starting to reach the limits of what she'll do anyway. The old keel is good for another 5-6 knots boat speed, and is coming out of storage this week :)

I didn't take a camera which is a shame, as was a great sight looking back on everyone with kites up coming down the harbour. Even more fun was when a gust would go through and every time 3-4 boats would get in the crap.

Karma was definitely having fun out there, going for a bit of a weave around the harbour - not often boats do more miles than us over a course! Could've had some awesome shots of her lifting the bow and taking off when the gusts came through.

Another 5-10 knots breeze and would've been perfect!

Perfect conditions for the PC, however it was a race to forget..lost fraccy sheets twice then the halyard..result was we could only finish with number 3 on as lost the second jib halyard giving the fraccy a heath robinson..a very painful way to end and a great way to throw commanding lead to the series..somehow managed to drop 38 points in the last 3 races

Looking at the RNZYS results for the the winter series, where is A division? All i see in the results is a couple of old 50' shitters, some 40' caravans and a couple of peppy little sportboats that a couple of years ago would have made up B division. Lou, Leo, Jim, Bob and co must be turning in their graves at the collapse of "A division" racing in this country. Why don't they just rename the multihulls A division and put the "B" division back where they belong :D

On Revolution we were E Div no spins and only 4 on board. We had fantastic boat for boat racing with Plane Jane, Exhilaration Share Delight and the 2 Beales all the way down to Motukorea. We then stretched coming home and passed the Dufor and Country Cousin although CC got us just before the finish. Bit hard to hold off a good Farr 38 on an easy lay.

Interestingly we put in a reef going to Bean Rock in the squall and only lost a boat length doing it and then made gains once it was in. Nice when the stuff works.

We must have had a bit on. No time for a beer all race!
