ex Elly 254
Looks like INEOS Team UK are pretty proud of the bustle on Britannia II Bustle: Attached to the bottom of the hull, this has two functions. (1) During the take-off phase it helps lift the boat off of the water. (2) When the boat is foiling, the bustle closes the gap between the hull and the water surface, thus blocking the airflow going across the boat, and thus increasing the efficiency of the sails. waikiore 477
Phil Bolger drew many boats this shape--40 years ago. Admittedly for different but equally valid reasons
B00B00 329
I have heard that it also helps them to gain traction and control if the boat completley stalls out due to low speed, thats why it has the aggressive edges. The plan is to luff hard and park the other boat and then be able to hold their ground and accelerate away, something like that anyway.
