Clipper 375
I use GME with raymarine gear. Got from supercheap or repco.
Island Time 1,294
Make sure whatever you get is FCC compliant (or IEC). It's illegal in NZ to use an uncertified transmitter. For your info, a NAIS 500 (B&G or Simrad) is $955 + GST, and is compliant.
CarpeDiem 530
If buying new I would recommend a SOTDMA device over the older CSTDMA devices particularly if going off shore. Often called "Class B+" or "Class B SO" or some derivative there of... Good choice on the Orca Core! Epic little unit. The sailing processor alone is worth it - unfortunately B&G displays won't play like I want with it After a whole lot of experimenting I discovered that you cannot turn off dampening on the B&G displays for the NMEA2K wind PGN. Even setting the dampening to "0", (which I had assumed was off), they refuse to display what is actually being transmitted on the network and show some moving average calculation over some undocumented period. I have been told, (but have not verified), that RayMarine refuses to display the Core's broadcast TWA and TWS values, always displaying it's own internal calcs. Jon 412
Thoughts please Simrad V3100 SOTDMA CLASS B AIS W/GPS-500 SKU:000-14380-001 Price:$1,539.00 inc. GST
Adrianp 136
I have the B&G V3100 which i assume is just the same. The extra transmission power is noticeable and well worth the extra $$$ over the 2.5w version.
Jon 412
Latest update, don’t take anything old to lusty & B, they charged $50+ to tell me the power supply was faulty Yesterday I took it to York at Te Atatu, he said if it’s the power supply he would fix it and if not he has Chinese units for $300 The Raymarine one has lasted 16 years but 9 x the price and the components are probably from the same factory or similar. Ill update next week, extra watts transmit would be nice but receiving is same

Jon 412
Didn’t say it was, but if they aren’t even interested in replacing parts then why bother even taking it from me was more my point

Jon 412
Turned out it was a dead gps antenna $100 Equal Electronics
Steve 48
I found that any old thing did the trick but the splitter for the antenna needed to be top quality. I ended up with a NZ product from L & B. Or I think it is NZ made. Expensive but worth it.
