Fogg 427
Scenario is a large yacht with no electronics installed. If you wanted to go to town with top kit with the latest plotters and repeaters and integrated systems etc what would you buy and who would do the installation here in NZ? Talking about everything from basic nav instruments through to radios and integrated autopilot - not crappy raymarine but the stuff that can cope with big boats. Who/what do the super yachts use? Battleship 100
I think the Volvo Boats and a lot of Super Yachts use B&G, http://www.bandg.com/ I have B&G on my boat 20 years old and still going strong.
rigger 47
Personal opinion - avoid furuno radars, JRC produces a good unit, but Sperry seem to do a good package. http://www.sperrymarine.northropgrumman.com/ Or are you after mostly sailing related gear?

ERSATZ 2
Raymarine gear is commonly found in the rarified air of superboat land. As are many no name custom systems. One large boat Auckland owner built his entire own set as he didn't like any of the others. Most brands have price based and no holes barred options.
tuffyluffy 76
Id be questioning the need to go with one particular 'brandname' as opposed to sourcing the best hardware components (eg autopilot, wind instument, transducers, GPS antenna etc) and setting the system up in much the same way as a computer network with off-the-shelf touch screens and controllers/processors. This would assume some kind of central software to link everything in a meaningful manner, and im unsure if such software is readily available. It appears to me that alot of the PC/touchscreen technologies are converging with "marine" electronics or vice versa, and its more a case of managing and displaying the inputs and outputs in a usable manner. The data has been the same for 20+ years, its only the format that has changed.

marinheiro 352
have a look on that other sailing forum beginning with "c" for poster "S/V Jedi". He wrote an extensive series of posts on the complete replacement of instrumentation on his Sundeer 64. Has some good comments

For B&G gear you can't go passed David Minors 021 635 038 He has done the Bliss (Dubois 37m), Warwick 75's, TP52's from Cooksons (too many to name) Most of the super Yachts we have built rigs for would use B and G and most if not all have been fitted and purchased from David who used to work for B&G in the UK.
