  1. We were out at the Barrier last night. A trailer boat was anchored and diving for crays next to Bowling Alley Bay. Can't imagine how they will achieve anywhere near 100% compliance

  2. OK, cut now and fitted to the housing. The three new rings are significantly thicker than the old ones that came out and there are only three threads visible on the housing - there was at least 6 with the old rings. I'm taking this as a Good Sign.

  3. tauranga harbour is pretty shallow everywhere. Consider actual draft. A bilge keeler would suit there really well. Jon has said it first - survey. you will need one for insurance anyway, and you will need insurance for a marina berth or a mooring. For a cheap as chips option, Raven 26. Lots of other choices though.

  4. Caulerpa, like most seaweeds, can reproduce by producing eggs and sperm cells which fertilise in the water, and then, obviously, spread for kilometers by tidal currents. Although fragmentation also can spread it, once it is established, the action of a few fragments from anchoring ain't going to make much difference. Once again, like the over reaction to kauri dieback, decisions made without scientific evidence. We pay all the time for the foreign species brought in by international travelling ships.
