We can put really deep drafted boats over at the commercial wharf but to get into the Marina it's only about 2m or less at low tide plus about 1.5m of tide on average The commercial wharf is is just that with no facilities so not ideal. But it can silt up with not much warning so any boats around the 3m plus mark will have to time their finish for high tide and preferably daylight we like the best. Some of the fleet always have to wait off before entering but I'll warn them in Wellington before the leg starts of the time they should finish, but some always don't listen and finish at the wro

E770 doesn't comply on lenght over all and the Designer has previously stated that the design isn't upto Cat 2, it was only designed as a trailer yacht that the NZ version had a keel fitted, in Aus they are considered light trailer yachts The Tasman and Cook Straight shouldn't be underestimated or any other part of our exposed coast. On a more positive note there is still room for more smaller keelers but we have mostly filled our capacity for larger ones

Some 1020's and 88's are still planning on doing the Shorthaul div but the 1020/88 div is following discussions after the Anzac race and in response from owners wanting to play as a group and struggling to find crew for the 100, anyone serious about doing something longer in the future should be looking at doing the longest possible option, but the thinking behind these changes is to get the highest possible participation The other major change is that Cat 3 is now only required by the longhaul fleet and only for the 100 No reason for anyone to not be there now.

Once you have AIS you wouldn't want to be without it. We came through the Americas last year and online purchasing of larger electronic gear here has sorted out the way too high prices we were paying here, in fact most but not all marine electronics were easier and no more expensive for us to get people joining us to buy here and bring with them and defiantly if they could get them GST free for export. But as stated above hardware, fittings and small electrical stuff like lights etc. this stuff is cheaper and sometimes a lot.

And to think we weren't planing on running this event next year what with it being the RNI, But there will be linchings I'm picking if it doesn't happen. Shorter format though, probably range from 120nm down to 50nm courses which should make for a more united gathering Hopefully no one loses there shorts next time

Hamish I have one in my shed that we tried on the Beale for RNZ but found it caused as many f ups as it saved so we went back to letterbox drops which with practice we got really good at, but the sock was probably operator error. When are you up next as I could leave it on your boat for you to try if you like. Jon
