  1. I've had extensive experience with both Lewmar and Quick. Last boat (AC, 35ft, 5t) I had Lewmar V3. Yes according to the chart V2 is adequate and V3 was overkill but when it comes to anchoring I like overkill. I want to be able to raise the anchor by simply operating the remote switch and pulling the boat forward under windlass power alone in 30kts of wind - with no engine assistance. Obviously you can use the engine but I find it fiddly engaging fwd for a few secs then back to neutral so you don't run over anchor then fwd again. And all the time the engine revs (therefore alternator revs
  2. Great viewing. Can't believe the spread of the fleet resulting from early course choices which seem to have set the scene for rest of the leg...
  3. Did you confirm your Quick windlass size? I had experience with them on my boat and had to upgrade from base spec to better match boat size.
  4. Might be true. But there's another group that don't use FB and many other forms of SM - people who have been working at the cutting edge of global tech & digital services and have had concerns for a long time. Most of the top guys I work with out of Silicon Valley don't go near FB. I came off it about 7 yrs ago.
  5. Using the App this morning I only get options to view legs 1 & 2 not leg 3.
  6. Sorry for delay - spinnaker sold a little while ago at Westhaven market. Other sails still available - I’ll open them out and take some proper pics.

Excel. I’m on my 3rd. Best option in NZ.
  8. Cameron is doing it right ie taking proper legal advice and ignoring any ‘advice’ here.
  9. Totally agree. But the way some of these posts are worded they sound like experts - hence the hazard to anyone taking them seriously. Unless you’re a contract lawyer you shouldn’t be posting legal advice on contracts here.
  10. A ton of dangerous ideas & opinions masquerading as ‘legal advice’ here guys. Seriously???
  11. Yes of course Metservice muppets price their full ‘Kermit’ status yet again with another weekend of changeable but quite nice weather - with no sign of floods / fires / famine / locusts - we’ll not around Gulf Harbour anyway.
  12. I have a Raymarine 70 VHF set downstairs plus 2nd station extension in the cockpit mounted by the wheels - which acts as speaker, mic and full second control. So I can listen, talk and operate set whilst steering. Works perfectly. http://www.raymarine.com/view/?id=10840
  13. What's happening with the results? Leg 1 Auckland-Mongonui results table shows Motorboat II 1st for both line and corrected time. But when you view via tracker it shows Motorboat II with 1st on PHRF but 2nd on line. And Titanium holds 1st on line and 2nd on PHRF? Or am I looking at it wrong?
  14. Someone else here posted a reply along the lines of “there is no problem here just ignore the muppets and carry on sailing.” Which is the worst kind of ‘bury your head in the sand’ in denial behaviour in the world. For every death Luke this one there are s ton of near misses. Having spent a month in the BOI this summer I personally witnessed several. If you want a more recent example of a highly dangerous situation that could easily have led to another fatality look at this from about a month ago: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/northern-advocate/news/article.cfm?c_id=1503450&ob
  15. For anyone else who’s in denial that there’s a problem and thinks it ok to just ignore the problem and carry on as-is, look at this. You’ll see that even do-called well intentioned experiences slippers can kill people accidentally. Let alone the idiots. https://www.maritimenz.govt.nz/commercial/safety/accidents-reporting/accident-reports/documents/Waiatea-041063-mnz-accident-report2004.pdf
  16. That is absolutely nuts logic. You’ve obviously never been swimming or diving around your boat and never been worried about a loved one (or yourself) being run over. I’ve heard it all now...
  17. One thing I never realised is that in NZ the callsign is regarded as attached to the skipper / owner not the vessel. In other words when you sell your boat the callsign is supposed to follow you to your new boat (or die out if you go boating). The new owner either brings their own existing callsign or buy a new one when they buy your boat. To leave the callsign with the boat the seller has to release the callsign to the buyer and notify CG of this agreement. In my case I bought from deceased estate so the CG saw common sense and let me keep the callsign on the basis the old owner would
  18. GH marina recently went down the locked gates route. Catastrophic decision that the bertholders were majority against but management over-ruled the vote. Worse still, they didn't learn from Westhaven who were progressive enough to install sliding gates - GH went for the cheap slam gates option which makes it a bitch if you've got hands full of stuff and a trolley (when did you last hear Westhaven described as progressive). Berthed at GH for 15yrs with never a problem and never heard of one. I went into the office to ask for my swipe pass to be enabled for all piers not just my allocated berth
  19. Yes the CG lady gave me callsifgn and mmsi in same transaction.
  20. Just be careful when you type in the MMSI number - most VHFs treat it as a one-time exercise so you can't change it once entered (without factory reset).
  21. Also selling this: https://www.trademe.co.nz/trade-me-motors/boats-marine/parts-accessories/anchors/auction-1944798217.htm Anyone keen let me know and I’ll withdraw from TM and sell here instead.
  22. Yes it looked symmetrical when we opened it up. White and black and yellow.
  23. Just emptied storage locker and found a bunch of sails I’d forgotten about. Just sold one at Westhaven jumble sale but the others are as follows: 1. Genoa from 35ft keeler 2. Main from 35ft keeler 3. Genoa from 42ft keeler 4. Main from 42ft keeler 5. Spinnaker + sock from 42ft keeler The first 4 genies & mains are all well used Dacron but still have life left in them. Approx 10 yrs cruising usage. Would make good spares if going offshore or could be recut. The spinnaker plus chute are like new - appear to have hardly been used. 9m at base and 16m up luff so by my calcs prob
