  1. I'd be interested too, been looking at some of these. My house bank is pretty good at the moment but will need replacing one of these days, I'd love there to be a good solution if drop-in Lithium isn't fixed up properly soon. The Lead Crystal ones do look the best of the currently available.
  2. We send DGs every day for business with Post Haste. $5 for that size overnight Chc-Akl, so someone is taking the mickey.
  3. Great idea for a topic. Next time I'm out I'll try to get some good pictures of boats, and with luck others might end up with a decent picture of their boat sailing. If we all do it we might end up with some decent pictures of our own boats in return eventually.
  4. Yes, orange has just tacked and looks like it did it a bit too late if the objective was to stuff 05 up...

    Fuel economy

Also, rough water makes a huge difference. I have the 105hp VP and can really chew through diesel when motoring through decent sized waves at 7-7.5kts. Canal boats are usually idling at 3-4 knots on perfectly flat water, and I can believe that 2l/hr is no problem then. See the dotted line below showing expected fuel consumption at various rpm.
  6. That’s fabulous. Who is working on that? How do we do the same for other areas of nz?
  7. I agree. Although I'm only doing coastal cruising at the moment, I'm pretty much equipped with everything on Cat1 barring the liferaft (we will sell this one and upgrade to Cat1 type when setting off). I think I'm short one bucket with lanyard. The only thing I'd question is the specific wording of the crew requirements, but assuming that the inspector is reasonable I'm sure they would make a judgement call on experience at the time. If an inspector really thinks that you have all the equipment but still shouldn't be leaving, then it's probably time to have an objective look at yourself.
  8. Excellent post, thanks BP. I don't have a drogue, and currently I don't plan to be anywhere near 50+kt winds, but when we do set off away from the coastal weather forecasts in a few years' time I intend to pick up a Jordan for exactly what you describe.
  9. Well done. I saw both of them zooming around in front of Purau Bay around lunchtime. We went out for our first family sail on Saturday, glorious sailing weather with just enough wind to get going, even though it was straight down the harbour so gybing down and tacking back. Two boys got their first ever taste of sailing, anchored in Camp Bay for lunch.
  10. Well finally made it, after engine giving up in Pegasus Bay, wind giving up 10nm from Godley Head, getting to the end of A pier, then bodging the engine to get us next door to our final mooring (it was temporarily in use), then this weekend doing final leg of our Auckland delivery trip -- moving five metres to port to our destination in A29. Come say hello if you're around. I'm busy getting various bits and pieces fixed up.
  11. Another nice boat in Lyttleton, good to see! I'm on my way tomorrow hoping to arrive at the weekend or early next week. See you there!
  12. Good result, but why? Doesn't show that much wind up there, nor sea state.
  13. Thanks very much Viki for such handy information. I'll be sure to contact those. Oborns know me well already Volvo say that the nearest authorised agent is in Kaikoura. Handy. Can't believe there's no-one official in Christchurch, but looks like I'll have to dig about for others.
  14. We've got room for one more if anyone would like to help us sail from Auckland to Christchurch starting Tuesday 24th April on a Bavaria 49. PM for details.
  15. The key is that the skipper was found guilty and fined. That makes a private prosecution by the other boat (or insurer) much more likely, so they’ll get the 55k off them too.
  16. Thanks Viki, I will look you up when we get there, which is looking like the end of the month. Where do you get fuel down there? I’ve talked to Oborns for rigging/sails and Norris for doing some modifications to the boat. Not sure where everything else is. Need a Volvo service agent and a decent electrician and plumber if you know of any.
  17. I will do, thanks! We were going to be pretty close, A20, but have now been moved up as we needed a bigger berth so we're on your side a bit further out I believe.
  18. That would be great. I'd like to think that a bunch of us new marina folks will end up getting to know each other, particularly since there aren't likely to be many broker or charter berths here in the near future -- I'm guessing that most of the berths will be actual boat sailing owners. We could even meet up for a beer now and then. All we need is for someone to build a bar
  19. Hi all, finally been let on here. About to collect new (to me) boat so finally sticking my head above the parapet. Mooring in Te Ana from May, and I'm guessing there must be a few of us around as it's so close to full. Anyone else mooring there? "Te" and "Ana" are both excluded words in the forum search so it's going to be tricky finding related information. Any advice on East coast and Banks Peninsular cruising grounds would be most welcome to an ex-pom who has only done southern UK sailing before. And, of course, any recommendations for yacht services down here. It doesn't look
