Interesting decision by the arbitration panel about the nationality rule... anyone who holds a passport by the time the challenger series starts qualifies. So Malta (in general anyone) is free to recruit whoever they want, as long as they can get their government to play along... https://www.sail-world.com/news/214421

    Miami World Cup

Alex Maloney and Molly Meech led just about the whole regatta in the 49erFX but seem to have had a poor medal race today, finishing 2nd to last and falling two points below the Brazilians for silver overall. https://www.manage2sail.com/en-US/event/cb020d78-c90b-40c3-ae32-a15882df1bdd#!/results?classId=8242c35c-cac0-470f-a9ba-a0474fa3255b The Laser medal race is tomorrow. Sam Meech is in 2nd overall. Other Kiwis at 17, 27 and 42. https://www.manage2sail.com/en-US/event/cb020d78-c90b-40c3-ae32-a15882df1bdd#!/results?classId=53803826-54ca-48bd-b862-8ec3cacffd8d

Thanks P2. There's a little extra compression and cropping in the screen shot. For photography enthusiasts, worth taking a look at the original as well.

Can't find a way to link to this directly, but I found a pretty cool photo of Blair Tuke... http://www.yuppic.com/. Roll your mouse over "Deporte" on the right.
  7. Live tracking now at https://wcs2019-miami.sapsailing.com/gwt/Home.html?#/event/:eventId=f393a743-dd49-450f-ab8b-d11522b266f2 There are several NZers in the Lasers and one kiwi team in the 49erFX And let's hear it for Mitch Booth in the Nacra17, still competing at this level at the age of 56 (holding 7th spot in R1 as I'm typing this).
  8. New promo video from the Dutch team...

    Tornado Worlds

Interesting comment from Richard Gladwell - https://www.sail-world.com/news/213896/A-big-Week-for-Women-Sydney-Hobart-Furore

    Tornado Worlds

True, I only found out about the Tornados from a friend in Wisconsin. BTW Sellars finished 1 point away from 3rd, and one extra discard from 2nd.
  11. From a twitter user (in NZ) this morning... thoughts?

    MNZ on VHF

I wouldn't sail solo without one (and a PLB). Now if only CG would get with the program and support DSC.

    Tornado Worlds

Started at Takapuna yesterday (who knew?)... https://livesaildie.com/2019-tornado-world-championships-tricky-start-to-regatta/ Nice to see Rex Sellars near the top of the fleet at 68.
  14. And funnily enough, that very episode is cited as evidence of the seaworthiness of the Compass 790 in an ad currently on TM. Maybe the owner read this thread ... https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/boats-marine/yachts/keeler/auction-1889993753.htm
  15. Just to keep the thread drift going, anyone know if Grunt Machine sold earlier in the year? It fell off trademe while I was out of the country.
  16. And roughly how many of their boats are currently racing in NZ?
  17. 4 people bidding in the final minutes - 1 dropped out at $53,300. Another single bid at $54,100. The boat was previously listed with a broker at $149,000.
  18. Final bid $57,000, with 508 people listed as watchers. The market has spoken.
  19. $50,200 with 24 hours to go and 479 watchers. Will be interesting to see what it goes for and whether it might give the market as a whole a jolt of realism. There seem to be a lot that have been on the market a long time.
  20. A minimum length requirement? LOL, I guess Webb Chiles' Moore 24 wouldn't qualify (if he were a NZer) - the one he is currently finishing his 6th circumnavigation in. Not to mention the two identical 18' open boats he sailed 35,000 miles in!
  21. What a clown show the NZ Herald is. The sooner they go out of business the better. BTW the link above doesn't work for me. Try https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=12178032
  22. I just discovered there's an entry for the Daring in the book NZ Shipwrecks by C. W. N. Ingram. The only detail that I have not seen reported elsewhere is this:
