  1. There's a retired designer on fb who was involved in many superyacht projects. He's run the numbers and comes up with 88deg and some really big hatches underwater.
  2. Looks like you have a bit of finishing to do once the stairs are finished.

I found it, but the edited highlights are frustrating, the commentary pathetic and so far the racing has been boring. I discover I'm simply not invested in who wins. Each to their own.

Tried to find something on YouTube this morning. Gave up after a few minutes.
  6. It can't have been pushed past 90 degrees by any amount of wind. If any boat goes to that it should not sink.
  7. Lazy, why do so many get in trouble these days.
  8. Two rodes at 30deg. On one the storm anchor. On the other the stern anchor (stern anchor identifies the anchor even though it was set off the bow)then 30ft of chain, then the normal anchor. Storm anchor a big manson plough, stern anchor a Danforth, normal anchor a regularly sized manson plough. Hope that helps.
  9. I Condemn you to another 6 weeks hard labour in the mines.
  10. There was one occasion passing through Gatun lake at the high point of the Panama canal. There was a large sign on shore that said No Swimming. Of course once anchored I went for a swim along with several of my crew. Next day when the pilot turned up I asked him why there was no Swimming. His one word answer: Alligators.
  11. I'm just going to have a little cry.
  12. What exactly do you do with your spare time?
  13. All else aside this phrase caught my attention causing the 72m (236ft) aluminium mast to break in half and the ship to lose its balance and sink. I would hate my boat to lose its balance, maybe they should check alcohol levels.
  14. Cyclone in Huahine. Peak gust 108kn but probably sustained average in the 70s. Big storm anchor one side. Both normal anchors in series the other. The little Danforth stern anchor was furthest from the boat and had buried so deep it was a days work to dig it out. Biggest danger I found out later was internal friction, nearly lost everything but totally unaware at the time. Since then regularly kick over a 2nd anchor if bad weather forecast. Good for peace of mind. And all chain.
  15. Anchors, there were three.
  16. I've used the motor once like that. Full ahead all night. Don't know if it helped, I was just trying to ease the load on the anchoring gear, no way I could have got the anchor up, let alone moved the boat.
  17. And windage. How much crap do you carry on deck.
  18. You're already in a minority. I retired after getting in trouble for having my phone turned off. (I was at a funeral)
  19. Learn to sail a large boat with our online course.
