Might get eaten by a giant fanworm!

I feel like we had this very debate recently and KM found you can run them in side no issue

Well hauled out today and may just stick with what we know, It was much less than i thought - we were covered in barnacles however they weren't attached very hard and were fairly small

Personally, it won't be about avoiding Cat 1 it will be avoiding the ongoing costs and regulations. I intend to have an inspector give us a Cat 1 look over and comply with cat 1 standards as they are good ideas however the limited duration and repeated nature of them makes me want to bypass it all. My better half crewed to Fiji in May and she counted at least 6 boats that departed solely because their Cat 1 was going to expire. May had a pretty long wait between windows and this created pressure to depart before the cat 1 expired, They left and the ones she caught up with in the islands al

We get a decent brackish water flow with the river but fouling really took off in the past 4 months with barnacle growth that's solid to the hull and not moving away without a scraper. May just chuck an extra coat or 2 of Awlcraft
-
So we're hauling out this weekend for a few months of work and to paint the bum, it's about 18 months since the last haul and it's covered in barnacles - Last paint was 3 coats of Awlcraft. The boat sits up Whangarei marina in the river for 9-10 months per year, Does anyone have any better options/methods for a mainly stationary river boat? I'm hearing from a few that 1-2 coats of hard then 2-3 coats of ablative may get us to 18 months with much less fouling

SloopJohnB, God no, Who could afford them. The washing machine? 1965 $109 quid or $4k in todays $ A fridge? 1965 $119 quid, $4300 in todays $ Vacuum 1949 $29 quid, $2040 in todays $ (NZ Stats) It's a good thing the price on appliances have fallen too, House price to income ratios have gone from 2.1:1 to 8.5:1 since the 50's. Incomes haven't kept up. It's a lucky few who can afford a single income and support a house and/or family. It's no surprise globally the number of sailors is dropping like a rock, Globally more and more of the household income is tied up in the basics.

Actually, they are in the parachutes and can contain up to 75g of explosive materials per flare. In handheld signal flares the only reason it's not explosive is one end is open. IIRC they are made with strontium nitrate. Are they going to chase this further with Customs?

DoC can remove you with police assistance and fine you upto $10k. Conversation act section covers closing off areas that aren't national parks. How far the conversation area, in this case, covers I'm not clear on but High tide line would be a safe bet unless DoC want to get in a pissing contest with MNZ
-
Yeah that doesn't sound right at all :/ Were they expired? EPA would only come into play if there was a large amount as they are classed as explosives iirc

Out of interest what is the gen2 stuff you're talking about? I've been head down at work so been out of the battery space for the past 6 months

Those are mint packs, Pretty much if you want lithium power but dont want to worry about the safety systems etc those are your goto pack

Hi all, Does anyone have a Garmin inreach we unit for sale or borrowing? The other half is crewing to Fiji this month and id like her to take a tracker as our Hf rig is out at the moment Cheers

Interestingly i think ABYC state that the AC and DC neutrals must be bonded in all situations
-
Most battery charges these days bond the AC Neutral and DC Neutral together which creates a lot of the potential problems* (*Note coffee not had so may be wrong)

Aftermarket's showing up around $800 NZD + shipping and GST. Actually done some tracing on it tonight and may just be a cooked stator so going to try and source that now

So our little ef1000is decided to not work, its main inverter board/control board died and Yamaha want $1400 for a replacement. If anyone has a unit with a dead engine I'd be keen to buy the board, Otherwise, i have a working engine for sale! The part in question is item 30 in the above diagram

Attached photo of the letter

It seems the local marina isn't thrilled at the idea, up on the notice board is a prewritten letter against the changes and a pile of copies for you to sign and submit under it

Rogue worksafe/caa agent?

Nice, CPL is worth it if you can get past the BS chaff crap in the exams, Human factors is awesome in CPL but crap in PPL, Flight is kinda meh in both but i've heard many, many times CPL Met is the hardest in the world

Ok so seems I've kicked a nest here, My bad. Who here knows about the Samsung Note 7 fires? For those of you that don't it was a new cellphone that got released Aug 2015 and started to catch on fire while charging, It took a long while to figure out but in the end it was battery defect in manafacturing Here we can clearly see what the issue is, A mechanical issue lead to an electrical one and in the case of cellphone batteries you have a problem known as thermal run away where the hotspot around an internal/external fault which cause a chemical reaction in the surrounding area pro

Well the first video I posted was a LifePo4 which is what most boat/marine/RV packs will be of, Either DIY or purpose built like Victron but they just smoke out, Internal heat gets up near 200c but external there is no fire or ignition. Dead shorts are the same as well. In my experience the biggest danger from a bank of LiFePo4's being punctured or dead short is the gas expansion. These banks are often in tight spaces and little thought is given to where the gas from the PRV will go so you can/do see panels blown out/doors blasted off their hinges FLA's do much the same but rather than smo

Oh and even with the exploded lithium chem's you can still protect/contain - Just like you should vent a FLA battery you should also ensure any large energy source be it battery or fuel
