  1. David what are the all up annual costs for a Gulf Harbour apartment with a marina. Ie bodycorp rates and berth costs.
  2. Actually the one in the pic is a later date brass body Tilley and the my usual is a 246 brass body circa 1959. No ventilation or dampness issues just leave a hatch or two ajar. As you get older in date small things matter more. My father owned the Waione and as a very young boy we two handed that slim wooden canoe around the coast in many and various conditions. Christ it is amazing to think that I would ever have returned to the sea with the passion that I have given the dramas father and son encountered in that aged log of wood. My father is now old and will soon move on to other horizo
  3. At the end of a rollicking days sail tucked up all snuggly and warm.
  4. This change is reflective of constant improvements, ongoing marina maintenance and also continued high demand for berths at Westhaven. We are pleased to be able to continue offering berthage fees that remain competitive with other Auckland marinas. Marina management spouting the "party" line. In reality as a berth holder I receive year in and year out the same service. Somewhere to park my princess along with access to freshwater and when the electrical nazis are not running amok a battery top up. My question to you lot is at what point do you collectively say enough is enough. This con
  5. Run the whole boat on kero actually Jet A1 cheaper by far. Have central and exterior heating.
  6. It is a numbers game and no kiwi yard is or was going to successfully compete with the yards say in La Rochelle etc. I would wager that there are not many here with the dosh to buy a new high quality import. Hence the rise in numbers of the cheaper mass produced brands which actually are not that cheap once landed.
  7. Talking of architects sadly David Mitchell passed away recently. David was one of the greats and has left a fine legacy that many fail to do. I am not sold on the relocation of the Port in totality. The facility has just exploded in size and capacity in a very poorly planned fashion and uplifting and shifting leaves the public purse exposed to private sector avarice full of fish hooks. POAL rate of return is laughable but a retained scaled back compact smart port seeking to be more integrated and compatible with the local environment would be a better choice in my view.
  8. Have a few absolute shockers on my marina finger and honestly they all look farkin depressing. The rental fees are obviously being paid and for reasons only known to the the owners these once great looking yachts have just left them to rot.
  9. Not so sure this is such a great idea. From memory Andrew Fagan came up the same part of the Southland coast in the fine ship Swirly World near the time the Aussie perished and said the sea was pretty damned big. http://nzh.tw/12043636
  10. From this To this Wow a volcano and beaches galore. Must be some high quality choof wafting around the Archimedia office
  11. New a guy who had some rig/ & no motor issues in the channel out that way so he left his female companion alone onboard and jumped in his kayak and off he shot to seek some assistance Port Charles way. She was bloody happy to see him return many hours later.
  12. Reminds me of Conn who ran out to sea from the back of the Barrier for 5 days many moons ago after suffering a bob stay failure? Friends and family raised a fair wack of loot to mount a private air search and Conn repaired his yacht and returned home safely wondering why all the fuss. No epirb or radio. Barrier residents are a special breed but a quick call home would have saved a lot of concern and expense.
  13. Call me old fashioned but my 40 year 9.5m woody has a full length lie down cockpit for two and same in the saloon coupled with a double grunter that has known to take 3 knot all off the same sex. My issue with the Pogo apart from the exhaustive price is where exactly do you have access to the space and required layout to cruise.
  14. Having a winch stuck up your arse is a design success . Just kills any opportunity to lay down and have a snooze.
  15. Looks well sorted. https://trademe.co.nz/1615542707
  16. Can’t quite see the value at $300k for a second hand 30ft yacht no matter how well it sails. It’s no cruiser.
  17. Here is a Pogo 30 at $300k. Not to keen on the sheet winch position though and the interior lacks some finesse. http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/2016/Pogo-30-3127965/Cascais/Portugal#.WuO6ZdNuZ7M

  20. Gigantic floating turd if I ever saw one. Fark $2m of eyesore.
  21. Has Ashby got a contract with ETNZ to continue on. Glens skill set is with multis so he may well be redundant with the move to monos whilst Burling being a kiwi is a far better potential sponsors fit. If ETNZ toss him a DCM I agree it will very poor form.
  22. D Newick Pacific Island transporter trimaran. Built in Thames by http://www.lifestyle-yachts.co.nz/ http://talanoa.org/TDP_Project_VF.html
  23. Tried out the MOB sling to halyard but wife had great difficulty winching my 100 + kilo dad bod from a reasonably calm sea with all gear on. Tried the mainsheet which is 6:1 but no great success and you would need a boom preventer in place to stop it thrashing about. Takes 5 minutes to pump and deploy dinghy and crawl aboard. Agree best not to go overboard in the first place but sh*t happens.
