We have an irridium go and it works brilliantly, it is connected to the boat ipad so all communication goes via the ipad. We ised it crossing the tasman in july and it worked perfectly and also has its own tracking function so you can choose how often you want a position report sent out. Definately need the external antenna! -
Its sad that a few complaints can potentially ruin it for others. WBC is the reason we can keep boating as it is very affordable and if we lost it boating would be very different for us and probably in a trailer yacht rather than a 35 foot keeler. I have done alot of work on our boats there over the years and noisiest things i have heard is a dirt bike that seems to go for a strop up and down the road most sundays and weed wackers. You can stand outside the boundary when sanders and grinders are going and it is a very light hum so i feel there are a certain few being bery pedantic.

Thanks, luckily she has all the good gear on her and thats where the big money is!
-
Not wrong there, don’t think they did stuff all maintanance over there just raced it hard. But it was my opportunity to own a boat that i couldn’t normally afford.

Kick Update: So she was in need of some much needed tlc, she was pulled out of the water the following week after arriving back in NZ. Have since been working on the interior stripping all the varnish and made the call to paint out all cabinetry and bulkheads as most of the teak had water damage. Have stripped all doors ready to be re varnished. Also the cockpit was swiss cheese with all the fittings that had been bolted over the years and the coamings were heavil rope burned. Have take this opportunity to have a fresh start and optimise the systems for short handed sailing as that

Haha we had height and speed with that anchor down!

The luxury of modern technology and you can look back at your history of every movement the boat has made!
-
Wouldnt say it was a learning curve, we knew the boat was struturally good and had good gear. The crew that did this delivery were very experienced in many ways to over come all issues thrown at them and they did an amazing job bringing her back in a safe manner. It just would be nice to jave owned a boat for some time before doing a trip like this but then again the most prepared boats have issues as well.
-
Yes she is back and currently out of the water getting some much needed love. Trip was rough and full of issues, delivering a boat without knowing it does call for surprises to pop up. Had over 50knots of wind and 10meters seas, top speed of 22 knots vertical drop from a rather large wave. However a very strong solid boat!

Meister will be in for race 2&3 as the new boat will be mid Tasman for race 1
-
Mike Rees did Meisters 1, cost $1000 and used 1 of his moulds which i believe was overloads bulb elliott 30SS. He has a few moulds there

Try cleaning the thrmocouple, i have had it a few times if it has soot or dirt the gas keeps shutting off.
-
Has she had an updated keel since?
-
Dont think we will go down the 12v electric path as we wont have solar setup to run it
-
Yes there is an existing condenser, everything is there minus the pump. We have same size freezer on existing boat with a sanden sd508 and it has more than enough grunt, can freeze everything in 15minutes.
-
No mounts visible, not an issue as I can fab that up. No idea why it has gone, boat was just raced and not cruised until the last owner who has only owned just over 12 months so guess it stopped working so they just removed the pump. As you say unsure what the issues were why it was removed
-
Kick has everything there less the compressor, hoses are sitting capped in the engine bay so my guess that will be the most economical was to het it all running? Iv never purchased from ebay before :-/

Using irridium go you should run an external aerial to boost the signal. Built in aerial is terrible
