  1. I used the Sika teak deck sealant, with a plug inserted just below the lowest halyard exit. Tip the boat using a halyard attached to a nearby fixture, this provides a sloping surface towards the exit when the sealant has set and the boat is upright. Pour the sealant through a higher exit and put some tape over the lower part of the lowest exit to guarantee there is enough sealant, remember to catch any excess flowing over the top. It works really well.
  2. I enquired about the Oceanvolt system and it cost $45,000 to have a full system, including a Genset to allow for sustained cruising as well as powering the boat electrics. The space taken doesn't seem that large as the batteries are smaller and the engine is very small. It featured a Lithium Ion battery bank that could be recharged while sailing, the drag was something like 0.5 knot at 6 knots. I really like that idea, and substantial costs could be made by having a smaller cheaper genset for emergency use.
  3. Another great write up! I laughed out loud at some of your comments, you put together an entertaining story with great style. Looking forward to the next adventure, it is amazing how difficult things become in darkness especially when judging distances from islands and rocks!
  4. Great footage Booboo, I like the exit of Wgtn harbour content, 2-handed with the big gear up and filming the carnage! Legendary!
  5. I was thinking the same about the amount of breeze they had around Turnagain, Wil, as I watched the fleet split into 2 distinct groups up the Wairarapa on YB tracker, unfortunately for you on Truxton!
  6. Great videos, what an effort just to complete it, well done!
  7. I have tried it on leaking windows, it does seem to creep in to the small gaps ok but didn't seal it. It appears to be a watered down PVA glue type of substance. It wasn't satisfactory as far as curing the small cracks for me.
  8. We are in Beach Road, Otumoetai
  9. In Tauranga we've been just been visited by the Police warning us to evacuate now, if later on Civil Defence come around we will have to evacuate, they warned!
  10. 61 knots gusting to 110 knots, at East by North on White Is. At Waihi it is SW 25 kns. At Slipper it is 42 kn Gusting 54 kn from SW. Looks like the storm centre is heading out East a bit
  11. Friday morning looks to be quite an improvement, wind-wise.
  12. Tauranga and RNZYS are currently looking at starting the A2T race to avoid the weather bomb which comes through at some time.
  13. Looking at the various weather forecasts, when would the best time to start the race rather than the usual time on Thursday morning?
  14. It's hard to pick what the weather will do due to the variations in the predictions, some models show reasonably quick conditions whereas some show terrible conditions!
  15. Not fully confirmed, but it would be matched to the tidal conditions which we looked up but I can't remember now
  16. Oh no!! You guys are part of the history of the event! All the best for the recovery and hopefully we will see you next year, probably on Waitangi Weekend in 2018!
  17. Noelex 30's are a good option and a great boat for cruising around NZ
  18. I have sent a entry form and NOR to SSANZ (Andrew Mc) who will distribute it to make it easy for people to enter. If there are 5 or more boats we will make a separate division, the trophy is amazing for this classification. The shorthanded division is still eligible for the A and B Divisional prizes and trophies, as well. Here is the club website link http://www.yacht.org.nz/auckland_tauranga_race
  19. How about a blocked exhaust? Also, thinking about petrol engines, is the timing advancing with possible seized or jammed advance mechanism if Perkins have that system.
  20. I've got some expensive stuff from Steve's Marine, you can use if you just want to touch up, Andy K
  21. I go to the LINZ site, download the latest Raster charts, extract or unzip them on my PC. I then connect my Samsung phone to the PC using the cable and move the chart folder into the Android file which seems to be where the OpenCPN app. looks, I wouldn't mind knowing how to get it to select the SD card. Then I go to the OpenCPN app and select settings and chart info, then I select the file and it seems you may sometimes have to select it but then look through the files to find the one you inserted BSB Root, select that on and when it looks for the chart it uses hat one. I now have the 2017 u
  22. Looking at the tracker, there may be a problem out in the Bay of Plenty. It looks like Oracle is going to Arbitare? Anyone know what;s going on?
  23. That would be a great aid to planning coastal races such as the Auckland to Tauranga race which TYPBC run traditionally at Easter but are still trying to find an alternative weekend to consider!
  24. Enjoy your Cape rounding whisky tot with great satisfaction!
  25. Mike McCormick rigging in Tauranga could tell you what they use on old spars to make them look new again.
