Has anyone had problems with this fault? The autopilot will work well until this fault comes up and then loses steerage. Spare parts for older models? I have rechecked it and the autopilot isn't nexus but a hydraulic unit that I will have to check on he make??! A Robertson unit.

I have a Safety at Sea 8 man liferaft (Valise) of German origin that expired in 2015 and needs a retest, I am coming up this weekend to the boat show (Saturday) and could get it retested and if anyone needs one they could help me pay for the test, Andy 0273031477

There are 13 metre berths available for rent.

I had some and they had sealing race ball bearings, I freed them up after taking out the black side cover then applied chain lube refitted the side covers and they were magic after that. Different to the exposed race blocks most boats have now.

LPG sensor, I see the BEP sensor looks to be pretty good especially with the ability to switch off the gas solenoid

I am going to fit a gas detector to my yacht. Has anyone got any product recommendations? Where should it be fitted and should I wire it up to the house battery circuit or engine or both?

Hi MCP, I know its been on sale for a while but no other info. as the others have said, second hand boats are getting cheap....

The boat was stripped out and refitted about 7 or 8 years ago by Ian Wilson from Tauranga, as it was really run down. I'm not sure about its final state. It was then sold and used mainly for fishing out the entrance as far I could gather and was berthed at the marina at Sulphur Point. It was then moved to a mooring in Pilot Bay and I haven't seen it out much, it may have been bought with the berth and then stored on the mooring just to get the berth which are hard or near impossible to buy, normally. Good luck.

I have seen bottles on their side, they are made for it. They have marked symbols indicating their correct orientation so the out let tube is located at the top side of the container

Electric or Diesel-Electric Hybrid propulsion conversion viability
ballystick replied to cj!'s topic in MarineTalk
Apart from the installation cost, I see these benefits. Most of my running is short trips to the start line or out fishing (2 hr trip) This could easily be accommodated with the electric motor setup. For my summer cruise I would just fit a suitable genset to recharge batteries as necessary on the longer legs, use it to run appliances such as microwaves and toasters etc. efficiency on these trips are not such a big factor. It would save on weight for club racing etc.and diesel running costs would be reduced, any engine problems would be easier to fix by removing the genset from the boat.- 79 replies

Electric or Diesel-Electric Hybrid propulsion conversion viability

Oceanvolt system seems have several systems that seem to be well developed. Sailing produces some charge in the batteries, plus solar panels but it is hard to beat the energy content of diesel fuel.- 79 replies

We have almost sold our boat and want to move to a more cruisable and bigger boat. We are looking at Elliott 1050s to 38 footers, they should be nice to sail and have good headroom and priced to the market??!! There is a lot out here but they have been there for a while, any one got new stock or good deals from $80 - 150,000?

I was thinking the same thing about the workbench too!!

I used the Sika teak deck sealant, with a plug inserted just below the lowest halyard exit. Tip the boat using a halyard attached to a nearby fixture, this provides a sloping surface towards the exit when the sealant has set and the boat is upright. Pour the sealant through a higher exit and put some tape over the lower part of the lowest exit to guarantee there is enough sealant, remember to catch any excess flowing over the top. It works really well.

Electric or Diesel-Electric Hybrid propulsion conversion viability
ballystick replied to cj!'s topic in MarineTalk
I enquired about the Oceanvolt system and it cost $45,000 to have a full system, including a Genset to allow for sustained cruising as well as powering the boat electrics. The space taken doesn't seem that large as the batteries are smaller and the engine is very small. It featured a Lithium Ion battery bank that could be recharged while sailing, the drag was something like 0.5 knot at 6 knots. I really like that idea, and substantial costs could be made by having a smaller cheaper genset for emergency use.- 79 replies

Another great write up! I laughed out loud at some of your comments, you put together an entertaining story with great style. Looking forward to the next adventure, it is amazing how difficult things become in darkness especially when judging distances from islands and rocks!

Great footage Booboo, I like the exit of Wgtn harbour content, 2-handed with the big gear up and filming the carnage! Legendary!

I was thinking the same about the amount of breeze they had around Turnagain, Wil, as I watched the fleet split into 2 distinct groups up the Wairarapa on YB tracker, unfortunately for you on Truxton!

Great videos, what an effort just to complete it, well done!

I have tried it on leaking windows, it does seem to creep in to the small gaps ok but didn't seal it. It appears to be a watered down PVA glue type of substance. It wasn't satisfactory as far as curing the small cracks for me.
